World No. 2 Jon Rahm struggled during round two of the U.S. Open after shooting a 1-under 69 on Thursday. The Spaniard followed it up with a 3-over par 73 on Friday in round two. He currently sits in a tie for 49th place at 2-over par and is 12 strokes behind tournament leader Rickie Fowler.

Background

Rahm was born on November 10, 1994, in the Spanish-Basque town of Barrika. In both the 2011 European Boys’ Team Championship and the 2014 European Amateur Team Championship, he went on to win for his country.

He competed for the Sun Devils at Arizona State University, where he finished second to Phil Mickelson in terms of tournament victories with 11. Rahm established a record by remaining in first place as an amateur for 60 weeks in a row.

Rahm made history as the first golfer to win the Ben Hogan Award twice while still in college. In 2016, he attained professional status. He won his first PGA Tour match at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2017.
