The PGA Championship is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the sport. Alongside, The Masters, The Open and The US Open, it is one of golf’s four majors, which for anyone who doesn’t know are the four tournaments that matter most. These are the prizes that the best players in the world want to be competing for. Better yet, they’re the ones they want to win.
Being one of the majors, the PGA Championship, held annually in the US, is hosted at some of the best golf courses in all of America.
Where is the 2023 PGA Championship being held?
This year, the PGA Championship will be held at Oak Hill Country Club, which is located in Pittsford, New York. The USPGA Championship returns to the state of New York for the first time since 2019, when the Black Course and Bethpage State Park, located in Farmingdale, hosted. On that occasion, Brooks Koepka emerged victorious.
This is not the first time that this golfing feast has ventured into Pittsford. The 2013 renewal of the PGA Championship, won by Jason Dufner, was hosted at Oak Hill Country Club, while the 1980 renewal, won by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, also took place at Oak Hill, which was the first time that the venue served as host course for this event.
However, other New York venues have held the PGA Championship, with the likes of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, Pomonok Country Club in Flushing, The Park Country Club in Williamsville, Fresh Meadow Country Club in Great Neck, Salisbury Golf Club in East Meadow and Pelham Country Club in Pelham Manor all hosting in the last century.
Future PGA Championship venues
Not only do we know that the 2023 tournament will be hosted at Oak Hill Country Club, we also know where the PGA Championship is set to take place for several years to come.
In 2024, the PGA Championship will move on to Kentucky, specifically Louisville, where the famous Valhalla Golf Club will host the event. After that, in 2025, it’s on to Charlotte in North Carolina, where Quail Hollow once again hosts a major tournament having held the 2017 renewal of the PGA Championship, won by Justin Thomas, who also won this event last year at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Although New York has hosted several PGA Championships, there are no plans for the competition to return to the state this decade, with the future venues all decided up until 2030, plus 2031, which will be hosted at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, and 2034, when the PGA Championship will head to Frisco, Texas, where PGA Frisco will serve as the host course.
By the time the 2034 renewal rolls round, the tournament will already have been held in Frisco, as PGA Frisco is also set to host the 2027 competition. In 2026, the PGA Championship will be held at Aronimink Golf Club, which is located in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
Seeing out the 2020’s, we have the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, which will host the 2028 PGA Championship, while in 2029, the competition will be held at the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, much as it was back in 2016, when Jimmy Walker claimed his first and only major title.
