The PGA Tour calendar’s next stop is at the John Deere Classic, hosted by TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. J.T. Poston won last year’s edition, and this season’s is slated for July 6-9th.

The field only contains two of the top 30 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings but should provide plenty of entertainment with a ton of birdies and plenty of betting opportunities.

We’ll provide you with two predictions ahead of day one, which include a tournament finish and top golfer by category.

John Deere Classic Day 1 predictions: Tournament finish (72 holes)

The following bet is for the entire tournament.

Russell Henley to finish top 20 @ 1/1 (+100)

After missing four cuts in his first eight events of the season, Henley has found his swing and put together a string of positive results.

The 34-year-old has finished inside the top 20 in seven of his last eight events (87.5%) and has played well in his two previous appearances at the John Deere Classic. He also won the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba in November.

Henley results at the John Deere Classic

  • 2021: 11th
  • 2019: 2nd

The Macon, Georgia native is the second favorite at 16/1 to win the event behind Denny McCarthy (14/1), so his even-money odds to finish in the top 20 are extremely valuable, especially with his strong course history.

TPC Deere Run is considered a birdie fest track, and in his last two low-scoring events: the Travelers Championship and RBC Heritage, the No. 29 player in the world (second-highest in the field) has done well with two finishes of T19.

The University of Georgia product leads the PGA Tour in driving accuracy and is 27th in strokes gained: tee-to-green. His putter has let him down at times, but his course experience gives him a good chance to record another high finish and potentially contend come Sunday.

Top golfer by category: Top Argentinian

This tip is for all 72 holes.

Emiliano Grillo to finish as the top Argentinian @ 5/8 (-160)

This bet popped out with bright lights to me primarily due to who Grillo’s opposition is (Augusto Nunez and Tano Goya) and how each player has performed this season.

Grillo has put together a great year earning a win in May at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and has collected five top-7 finishes. He’s also much higher in the Official World Golf Rankings compared to the other two.

World rank

  • Emiliano Grillo: 42nd
  • Augusto Nunez: 304th
  • Tano Goya: 489th

Nunez hasn’t played well as of late and has missed two cuts in a row. He’s only made 11-of-21 cuts this campaign with just one top-20 finish. Goya has missed seven cuts in 19 events, including two of his last four, and also has just one top-20 finish.

The 30-year-old Grillo has a good course history at TPC Deere Run, having finished in a tie for second last year, three strokes behind champion J.T. Poston.

At 5/8 (-160) odds on Bet365, the Resistencia, Argentina native is set at a good number due to a number of the reasons mentioned above, but primarily because the other two players have a much higher probability of missing the cut and not even qualifying for the weekend.

Grillo’s full-season results can be seen below, and the following hyperlinks contain Nunez’s and Goya’s.
