F1 Qatar GP top predictions and odds

With a win in Japan, Verstappen took a massive step towards securing the 2023 F1 world championship with six races to spare. The Dutchman only needs to score three points in Saturday’s sprint to seal the deal and secure his third consecutive title. But there are other sneaky good odds down the field as well, which could provide some nice returns.

McLaren double podium finish @ 11/4 (3.75)

These are some very long odds for what could be a potential slam-dunk bet. McLaren looked like the second-fastest car under the lights on Friday, in similar conditions to what we will see in the sprint race. That both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri had their fastest times deleted for track limits was rather unfortunate, but the duo will get a chance to bounce back on Saturday.

Should the two McLaren drivers keep all four wheels within the white lines, then a double podium on Saturday looks like a very possible outcome. Sergio Perez simply did not have the pace to at least follow his teammate, while both McLarens looked significantly faster than the Mercedes.

Mercedes double top 6 @4/7 (1.57)

While McLaren looks like the number 2 team this weekend yet again, Mercedes has a firm grip on the #3 spot. Both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were slightly off compared to the two McLarens, but both were clearly faster than the Ferraris and Perez.

Even if Mercedes does end up behind the McLarens in the sprint, both Hamilton and Russell should still be in a good enough position to secure a double top 6. This prop has some room for error as well, allowing one additional car to slot in between the pair.

These odds were correct at the time of writing. We recommend checking with the bookmaker before placing the bet.

F1 Qatar sprint race weather condition

Unsurprisignly, the sprint race has a 0% chance of rain. The shootout, which will be held earlier in the day, has a 36°C forecast. Under the lights, the temperature will drop a little bit for the sprint, to 32°C. It’s still going to be hot, so expect drivers to try and save as much rubber as possible.

Because of Losail’s highly abrasive nature, combined with the high load corners and the heavy stress on the left-side tyres, the Italian tyre maker decided to play it safe, especially after suffering with four left-side punctures during F1’s last visit to Qatar in 2021. Teams will have two extra sets of medium tyres available, at the expense of one set of softs.
