Fresh off yet another dominant showing in Japan, which netted his 13th win of the season, Max Verstappen will likely line up as the 2023 F1 champion when the Qatar GP goes green this Sunday. The Dutchman only needs a sixth place finish in the sprint race – or a non-podium result for his teammate Sergio Perez – to secure a third straight drivers’ crown.
Max Verstappen fastest lap + win @ 3/4 (1.75)
As mentioned above, there is a very high chance that Verstappen will line up for the Qatar Grand Prix as the 2023 champion. And if that happens, we could very well see the Dutchman take a few more risks in the remaining races, with Red Bull having already secured the constructors’ title as well.
It’s no secret that Verstappen likes to go for the fastest lap whenever he has the chance, often to his engineer Gianpiero Lambiaze and to Christian Horner’s dismay. If the 2023 champion-elect has enough of a gap, don’t be surprised with another penultimate lap pit stop, just as we saw him do in Austria.
Lando Norris podium finish @ 8/5 (3.6)
These are some very long odds, and with a very obvious risk. Norris should have been on the front row, with his two attempts being good enough for second. But the McLaren driver picked up two separate track limits infractions, which ultimately saw him drop to 10th and last in Q3, having not set a valid laptime.
While overtaking is borderline impossible around Losail, there is a high chance that this weekends’ race turns into a two-stopper. And if that turns out to be the case, Norris could pull off a few undercuts to vault his way up the order. The raw pace is definitely there, and, with some well-timed luck, the British driver could very well find himself on the podium once again.
These odds were correct at the time of writing. We recommend checking with the bookmaker before placing the bet.

- What is the F1 Qatar GP start time? The 2023 Qatar GP is set to start at 18:00 BST (17:00 GMT) on Sunday, October 8th.
- Which tyre compounds will be available for the Qatar GP? F1 teams and drivers will be able to choose between the C1, C2 and C3 compounds in the 2023 Qatar GP. These are the hardest compounds within Pirelli’s range, a choice explained by Losail’s layout. With 11 right-handers, the track will put extra pressure on the left-side tyres. Last time out in Qatar, in 2021, the race saw four separate left-side punctures, which led to two retirements. Because of the sprint format, drivers will have one less set of softs this weekend
