Max Verstappen won’t line up on pole this Sunday, but that was just because of a gearbox penalty. The Dutchman dominated Q3, despite a scare in Q2 that nearly saw him drop out of the session. Verstappen was over eight tenths faster than the rest of the field, and will have every chance of pulling off a third consecutive win at Spa, even from sixth on the grid.
Over 17.5 Classified Finishers
This has been one of the safest bets of the season. But with the threat of rain looming for Sunday, the odds have moved a bit to make it a profitable choice. Only two races this year (Bahrain and Australia) had more than two retirements.
As long as the drivers survive La Source, the tricky and tight first corner, the rest of the race should go smoothly, even in the wet. Spa has enough runoff areas to keep drivers away from potential race-ending moments.
Winning Margin Over 11s
Just to make things clear, this bet is banking on a Verstappen win. The Dutchman finished 33.8s ahead of the rest of the field in Hungary, and there is plenty of reasons to believe in a similar margin in Spa.
Last year, despite starting all the way down in 14th following multiple engine penalties, Verstappen still managed to win by a colossal 17.8s margin over Perez. With Red Bull looking even more dominant this season, the Dutchman could pull off a similar margin should he win the race again this year.
Qualifying Result
Verstappen led the field, but the Dutchman will have a five-place grid drop on Sunday for a gearbox change. The Red Bull driver lost one of his allocated gearbox earlier in the year following the driveshaft failure during qualifying in Saudi Arabia. Charles Leclerc will line up on pole, with Sergio Perez alongside him on the front row.
F1 Belgian GP Weather Condition
If we are talking about Spa, we are going to talk about rain. After a very wet Friday, the forecast has a smaller chance of rain for Sunday (40%). However, there is still a chance of a shower during the race, which could mix things up in an interesting way.
