It’s about time for the lights to go out and the F1 2023 season to get underway. The Bahrain Grand Prix takes place this weekend, and we have selected the best bets available for the first race of the season.

F1 Bahrain Grand Prix – Top Betting Predictions

This will be a very interesting opening weekend. Formula One is coming off the shortest pre-season in history, with only three days of testing. As a result, there is very little information available: including free practice, drivers will have a combined eight sessions of track time before qualifying on Sunday.

Alonso Fastest Qualifier

Even with the limited amount of information available, Aston Martin seems to be the number 2 team on single lap pace right now. Alonso was right in the mix during the pre-season test, and the Spaniard has fit in really well with his new team.

After splitting the Red Bulls in FP1, Alonso topped the timesheets in FP2. The AMR23 has little trouble getting its tyres up to temperature, which is a massive advantage in qualifying. More importantly, Alonso’s pace in FP2, with track conditions similar to what drivers will encounter in qualifying, makes him an early favourite to score the first pole position of 2023.

Stroll Not to Be Classified

It was a last minute call for Stroll, who didn’t know if he would be fit in time for the opening round after breaking his right wrist in a pre-season accident. With little track time aside from some promotional filming, the Canadian had to get himself quickly acclimatized.

A radio message between the driver and the Aston Martin team showed that Stroll is still dealing with a significant amount of pain on his right wrist. An onboard camera showed that the Canadian had to take his left hand off and push the wheel, rather than turn it, into the tight first corner.

Tight right-handers like turns 1 and 4 would normally require him to twist the injured wrist, which explains the unusual driving technique. Left-handers, like the famous turn 10 hairpin and the fast turn 11, will also put some significant stress on his right wrist.

Assuming he does make it to the grid, it is still difficult to imagine Stroll completing all 57 laps and 308 km.

F1 Bahrain Grand Prix Weather Conditions

The weather forecast for the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix indicates three days of hot and dry weather, with very little wind. Qualifying will be held at night, with ambient temperature at 23°C. The race, which will also take place at night, will also have the ambient temperature at 23°C.

Post-Qualifying Update: Verstappen on Pole Ahead of Perez

In the end, Alonso lacked the pace to challenge at the head of the field. The Aston Martin driver ended up in fifth place, behind the two Red Bulls and the two Ferraris. Verstappen dominated Q3, scoring the first pole of the season by more than a tenth over his teammate Perez. Leclerc and Sainz followed up in an all-Ferrari second row. Alonso rounded up the top 5, qualifying ahead of the two Mercedes cars.
