F1 Austin GP top predictions and odds

Friday had a few surprises in store. The most notable one was Charles Leclerc’s pole position, edging out Lando Norris by just over a tenth. Max Verstappen had briefly scored pole, but the 2023 champion had his laptime deleted for a track limits infraction at turn 19. The Dutchman will start down in sixth, but will that be enough to stop him from securing another win?
Lewis Hamilton podium finish @ 19/20 (1.95)
Hamilton’s pace on Friday was quite impressive, but it got somewhat lost in the middle of a frantic qualifying session. The seven-time champion had the second-best average in the long runs, trailing only Verstappen.
It’s no secret that COTA has been a happy hunting ground for the Mercedes man. Hamilton has only missed out on the podium once at the Texas track, in 2013. He is also the most successful driver around the Circuit of the Americas, with five wins – including four consecutive between 2014 and 2017. Last year, Hamilton finished second following a close fight with Verstappen during the final laps.
Lando Norris podium finish @19/20 (1.95)
Norris was one of the main beneficiaries from Verstappen’s penalty. The McLaren driver was promoted to the front row, just a tenth down on polesitter Charles Leclerc’s time. But while Ferrari has struggled for pace over long runs on the harder compounds, McLaren has been relatively stable.
Norris is in a very good position to keep his podium streak going. The British driver finished on the rostrum in the last three races, and he could very well make it four in a row at COTA.
F1 Austin GP weather condition
We can expect another hot day in Texas. Fresh off the gruelling Qatar GP, the drivers will be dealing with a 32°C heat on Sunday. Humidity will be relatively low, however, and there is a 0% chance of rain. While it will be hot, Austin probably won’t be as demanding as Losail was.
F1 Austin GP important details
- Which tyres will the teams and drivers have available for the US GP? Pirelli has made the C2, C3, and C4 compounds available for the US GP. This is a mid-range choice, but Austin’s highly abrasive surface, combined with the high temperatures, could create some problems. Because of the sprint weekend rules, drivers will have two sets of the C2 (hard) compound available, but only six sets of the C4 (soft) compound.
- When is the US GP? The US GP will take place on Sunday, October 22nd. The race is set to start at 8:00 pm BST (7:00 pm GMT).
- How to watch the US GP live? In the UK, you can watch the US GP live on Sky Sports, for TV and streaming, and also on NOW.
