The only team without a win in the competition, Sri Lanka, will hope to notch up their first points when they face Netherlands in the 19th match of the 2023 World Cup on Saturday, October 21.
Our top Sri Lanka vs Netherlands predictions
Contents
Despite Netherlands’ shock win over South Africa, they continue to start as major underdogs here with bookmakers offering 16/5 (4.2) for this win. Sri Lanka will need to do a lot better than they have so far to live up to the 1/4 (1.25) odds on offer for their victory.
First Prediction: Top Sri Lanka batsman – Kusal Mendis: 10/3 (4.33)
Mendis had a rare failure last game which was to do with the need to take on the Aussie bowling. Against Netherlands, the Sri Lankan captain can be expected to roar on to a big score having made 43 the last time these two teams had faced off earlier this year.
Second Prediction: Top Sri Lanka bowler – Maheesh Theekshana: 10/3 (4.33)
Maheesh Theekshana is a difficult bowler to face for most teams but for a side which has little experience facing up to a bowler this unorthodox, things could get way more difficult. That, and the fact that Theekshana had grabbed a four-fer in their last match-up should give him a lot of confidence to get going.
SL vs NED – Sri Lanka bid to quell the rising Dutch
Sri Lanka were on a bit of a roll going into their Asia Cup final last month but since getting bowled out for 50 in that match against India they have struggled to find their feet again.
Netherlands, on the other hand, have looked steady but what they did to South Africa in Dharamsala will be an eye-opener for the others.
Sri Lanka
With their captain Dasun Shanaka all but ruled out of the tournament, the onus is on Kusal Mendis to guide them with both, the bat and as a leader.
They fought well against Australia but their wheels came off in the second half of both the innings of that match.
Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera will join the team in India as traveling reserves.

Netherlands
Netherlands made it two wins in as many ICC World Cup matches against South Africa having also beaten them last year at the T20 World Cup.
The kind of boost that gives them would be immense, especially with the captain Scott Edwards leading them from the front with a timely knock of 78 in that encounter.
Sri Lanka vs Netherlands h2h score
There have been five previous meetings between these teams and Sri Lanka have won every single one of them. In all of those matches, Sri Lanka batted first and clinched victories by 206, 195, 55, 21 and 128 runs.
Two of these results came earlier this year in the World Cup Qualifiers from which these two teams made it through to the main World Cup.
Pitch report and weather conditions
There isn’t going to be too much respite for either team with the weather expected to be in 30-plus degrees centigrade range and the humidity expected to be over 50%.
In the two matches played at this ground in this World Cup, the team batting second has had some advantage which points to the need to bat strong in the first innings.
