The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup schedule was released by the governing body a few months ago as ten of the best ODI teams go head to head in October and November 2023 to fight for the ultimate cricketing crown.
England will kick-start the 13th edition of fifty-overs World Cup as the defending champions after having eked out a narrow win over New Zealand in the final of the previous tournament.
And it would be these two teams, England and New Zealand who will also kick-start this year’s World Cup with the first game of the tournament on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Hosts India will begin their campaign three days later at Chennai when they take on Australia with Pakistan playing Netherlands, Bangladesh battling Afghanistan and South Africa facing Sri Lanka in their respective opening matches.
In all, 45 group stage matches and three knock-outs totalling a sum of 48 matches will be played in this tournament.
Most matches this World Cup will begin at 2 pm (8:30 AM GMT) local time and be played as day-nighters but there will be six day games too that will start at 10.30 am (5:00 AM GMT). These will also be the six days on which there will be double-headers played.
