The second match of the 2023 World Cup will be held on Friday, October 6 and will see the 1992 winners Pakistan take on qualifier Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Our top Pakistan vs Netherlands predictions and free tips

Pakistan start heavy favourites in this game with odds of 1/16 to win their opening encounter against Netherlands, a team ranked 14th in the world. Here are some of our free tips for this game:

First prediction: Pakistan to hit most sixes: 2/5 (1.4)

Pakistan isn’t known to hit a lot of sixes in ODI cricket and they are seventh in the list of most sixes hit by a team in ODI in the last four years. But they have a bowling attack that might not allow their opposition to hit too many either. And given the quality of their batsmen anyway, they should pip the Dutch team on this count.

Second prediction: Top Batsman – Babar Azam: 5/1 (6.0)

Captain Babar averages 66.4 in ODI cricket since the last World Cup having also scored over 1000 runs in the process. He has made it a habit of taking the weaker bowling attacks to task and he could well make Netherlands pay here.

PAK vs NED – Pakistan hoping to earn a hiccup-less win

Pakistan have been tipped to be one of the teams who could make it to the last four and in playing a qualifier in Netherlands first up they will have a chance to ease their way into the competition.

Pakistan

Despite the absence of Naseem Shah, Babar Azam’s Pakistan has a well-balanced side which includes their usual quota of high quality fast and spin bowlers but to go with that, they also possess some attacking batsmen who can take down the best in the world.

Pakistan do have a reputation of falling apart against the smaller cricketing nations at times like was the case even last year at the T20 World Cup when they went down by a run to Zimbabwe. They will hope they can avoid that in this match.

Netherlands

Netherlands surprised the world with their sterling showing in the World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year in which there were other teams like West Indies, Zimbabwe and even Ireland and Scotland who seemed more fancied to qualify for this tournament.

Instead it was Netherlands who made it through at their expense and will now hope to start their campaign with what could possibly be termed as the biggest upset since England’s early exit in the 2015 World Cup.

Pakistan vs Netherlands h2h score

There have been six ODI matches played between these two and Pakistan has won every single time. The closest that Netherlands got to upsetting Pakistan was last year in Rotterdam where they nearly chased down Pakistan’s 314/6 score.

Pitch report and weather conditions

Hot and humid. That’s what we can expect from Hyderabad at a maximum of 32 degrees centigrade with a humidity of 67%.

In the only ODI played here over the last four years, New Zealand were bowled out for 337 in reply to India’s 349/8. Another of these high-scoring matches could be in prospect again, especially if Pakistan bat first.
