Our top India vs Afghanistan predictions
Contents
India start strong favourites (1/8 or 1.13) here with only complacency being a real threat. That being said there, batting first could turn this into a tactical battle as the team looks to get themselves enough to safeguard their bowlers against the dew later.
First Prediction: Highest opening partnership – India: 4/7 (1.57)
India got off to a woeful start against Australia with three of their top four batters, including openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan getting ducks to their names. They are far too good a pair to repeat that again and we can expect them to compensate for that start with a big one here.
Second Prediction: Top India Bowler – Mohammad Shami: 9/2 (5.5)
This is a bit of a left-field pick but the last time these two sides played was in the 2019 World Cup and it was Mohammad Shami who had run through the Afghan batting with a hat-trick to his name. While Shami did not play the first match, he could be brought in for a spinner here.
IND vs AFG – India look to carry Australia form forward
India’s fine all-round display in their opener against Australia reinforces what a lot had thought of earlier too – they start the tournament as favourites. Can Afghanistan give them a workout here?
India
India will continue to miss Shubman Gill because of dengue which means Ishan Kishan should get another chance to open the batting.
The question will be if India would want to play a third spinner or get in a seamer like Mohammad Shami or even Shardul Thakur in his place on a batting-friendly pitch in Delhi.
Afghanistan
Afghanistan had collapsed from 112 for three to 156 all out in their first match against Bangladesh. They need to bat a lot better for their strong bowling attack to give them a chance of running the top sides close.
A lot will be expected from the likes of Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah and captain Hasmatullah Shahidi after having failed to convert their starts in their opener.
India vs Afghanistan h2h score
There have been three previous meetings between these two sides in ODI cricket and India lead 2-0 with a 2018 Asia Cup encounter ending in a tie.
Pitch report and weather conditions
The temperature could soar up to a peak of 35 degrees centigrade during the day with the humidity levels touching 43%.
If the previous match played in Delhi is anything to go by, we could see another high-scoring encounter. South Africa had hammered 428 for five in that match before the valiant Sri Lanka responded with 326 all out.
