Our top England vs Sri Lanka predictions
Contents
Reigning champions England are 4/11 (1.36) favourites to seal their second win but given the manner in which they are going they would consider this to be a banana peel encounter.
First Prediction: England to win: 4/11 (1.36)
This is a match-up between two struggling sides but man to man, England just seem to have way better resources even in current form to usurp Sri Lanka. Could even get to be a straightforward win.
Second Prediction: First innings 100 – Yes: 11/10 (2.1)
This is the kind of a ground where you can expect centuries galore. In the last game, there were two at the top of the innings and might have even been more had one of the Pakistani batsmen carried on. Expecting the same here.
The ICC’s World Cup slogan – ‘It Takes One Day’ – has felt almost apologetic at times over the last three weeks
50-over cricket has slipped down England’s priority list and it is harder than ever to see how it will return to the tophttps://t.co/e8RqtdQZJM

ENG vs SL – Nearly a must-win for both teams
While this is just the fifth game for both sides, England and Sri Lanka are both down to just one win from four matches. Another loss here will all but mean that the losing team will need to win their remaining four games and hope for a few results to go their way.
England
While losses are a part of the game, the nature of England’s defeat to South Africa in their last encounter raises a lot of eyebrows.
To allow South Africa to score 399 speaks volumes about their toothless bowling attack and to then get bowled out for 170 indicates something systemic. Can the defending champions rise?
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka had never come into the tournament with the hopes of winning the title but they would have surely wanted to do a lot better than three successive defeats that they started off with.
A win over Netherlands in the last game does give them some leeway. With the Sri Lankan batting having clicked way better than their batting they would be aiming to pull off a special performance with the bat here to have a chance.
England vs Sri Lanka h2h score
It’s a very close head to head with England winning 38 to Sri Lanka’s 36 matches between them. Even more interestingly they have played each other 11 times in World Cup cricket and England are just 6-5 ahead.
These two teams haven’t faced off in an ODI since July 2021
Pitch report and weather conditions
The Bengaluru ground has been used once before in this tournament in which Australia had piled up 367 and then saw Pakistan score 305 in reply. We could have something similar here.
The evenings in Bengaluru could get a lot cooler and much more comfortable but the Bengaluru pitch makes it a lot easier to chase down scores. That could be a conundrum for both teams at the toss.
