ODI World Cup schedule draft revealed, India vs Pakistan slated for October 15

India’s ODI World Cup Schedule 2023 has their campaign starting against Australia on October 8 in Chennai and they go on to face Pakistan on October 15 at Ahmedabad.

After plenty of criticism from the cricketing fraternity, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally revealed a draft schedule for this year’s ODI World Cup. The marquee tournament is set to kick off on October 5 and will conclude with the final taking place on November 19.

The BCCI shared the draft schedule with the International Cricket Council. The ICC have sent it to other participating countries for feedback before a final schedule is released next week.

Ahmedabad, which is the biggest stadium in India with a capacity of over 100000 seats, has got the honours of hosting the biggest clash of the tournament that is India vs Pakistan. The clash will take place on October 15. The hosts India will begin their ODI World Cup campaign with a clash against Australia at the Chepauk in Chennai on October 8. 

The opening fixture of the ODI World Cup is set to be between the defending champions England and New Zealand on October 5. The two teams, who played out a thrilling final in 2019, will meet at Ahmedabad. 

Apart from India vs Pakistan and the tournament opener, Ahmedabad will also host the final on October 19. The venues for semifinals, which are to be played on November 15 and 16, have not been revealed in the draft schedule. 

According to ESPNcricinfo, India are scheduled to play across nine venues in the league stage. India’s draft schedule is as follows

  • India vs Bangladesh, October 19, Pune
  • India vs New Zealand, October 22, Dharamsala
  • India vs England, October 29, Lucknow
  • India vs qualifier, November 2, Mumbai
  • India vs South Africa, November 5, Kolkata
  • India vs qualifier, November 11, Bengaluru

Some of the other marquee matches include Australia vs New Zealand at Dharamsala on October 29, Australia vs England on November 4 at Ahmedabad and South Africa vs New Zealand in Pune on November 1.

Pakistan, who took a long time to decide on whether to travel to India or not, are set to play across five venues in the country. Apart from Ahmedabad, Pakistan will play in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. 

The delay in releasing the schedule has received quite the backlash in recent times. In the previous two World Cup editions in 2015 and 2019, the fixtures were announced more than a year prior. The delay has also meant that the ICC haven’t been able to put out ticketing details.
