England Celebrate T20 World Cup Win in Style

England Celebrate T20 World Cup Win in Style

Just over 24 hours ago, England were in the middle of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, hitting the winning runs to claim their second T20 World Cup crown.

The win puts them equal with the West Indies as the most successful team in the format, with only two sides having won the trophy twice.

Having capped off an excellent led by Jos Buttler in Australia, England spent the night celebrating last night. Instead of raucous parties and debauchery, this English team stayed classy throughout, with captain Jos Buttler proving yet again why he is the man to be at the fore for England.

Family and Champagne for England

Many of the English team had families present in Australia, and it was a touching sight seeing the side celebrate their win together with their families.

In the post-match formalities, both Jos Buttler and David Willey could be seen walking around with a child in each arm, waving to fans and congratulating team mates. Wives and girlfriends were also allowed on the pitch, capping of a beautiful celebration for the team.

Prior to all of the post-match ceremonies, England had their own celebrations in the dressing room. Snippets of footage to come out of this time together show just how together this England team are, and how elated they were to win this tournament. Champagne and good vibes were flowing thick and fast.

Jos Buttler’s Touching Act

A poignant moment in the post-match celebrations occurred when Jos Buttler showed respect and care for two of his fellow teammates.

Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid are both members of the Muslim faith, which prescribes that followers should not drink or come into contact with alcohol. Just before the champagne showers began in England’s trophy photo, Jos Buttler could be seen going out of his way to warn Adil Rashid, and make sure that he knew what was going to happen so that he could leave in time.

It’s also no coincidence that the team had the majority of their photo taking and trophy celebrations before the champagne came out in order to include Rashid and Ali, only bringing out the alcohol towards the end.

Again, Buttler has proven that he is a class act both on and off the field.

How England Came to Be Champions

The reason why England were celebrating at all, was because they had just won the T20 World Cup final in emphatic fashion.

Having lost to Ireland in group play, and had a game washed out, England’s campaign was teetering on the brink. However, a healthy run rate and win over New Zealand got the team through to knockout cricket, where they comprehensively dealt to India. Winning their semifinal by ten wickets, England heading into the T20 World Cup final favourites for the win against Pakistan.

Jos Buttler’s men lived up to that moniker, and were in control of the World Cup final for the majority of the game. First, the bowlers did an excellent job restricting Pakistan to 137/8, with Sam Curran taking Man of the Match figures of 3/12 off his four overs.

Then, Ben Stokes does what Ben Stokes does best, and stood tall in the chase. While there were some worrying moments, with England losing half their batsmen, ultimately Stokes was the man to see them home, striking 52 from 49 and carrying his bat as England chased down Pakistan’s total with an over to spare.

England’s white ball dominance has been made complete through this title, and chances are plenty of sides will be looking to emulate their approach to the game over the coming years.
