Pitch report and weather conditions

Shere Bangla National Stadium is a venue that has been pretty hard for batting over the years. Spinners find significant assistance here while seamers can also make an impact. The average first innings score at the venue stands at 223.

The first game was washed out due to relentless rain and the weather in Dhaka isn’t looking good for Saturday. There could be thunderstorms, with a 69% chance of precipitation.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand prediction

New Zealand dominate the head to head record against Bangladesh by 28-10 but they haven’t managed to win in Bangladesh in the previous eight games. Bangladesh have good resources at home to beat NZ.

Our Prediction: Bangladesh to win this match at 13/20 (1.65).

Top run-scorer

Tamim Iqbal has over 8300 runs in his ODI career with 14 centuries. You can bet on him to be Bangladesh’s top batter at 13/5 (3.60). Will Young has 482 runs in the last 11 games and is coming off a fifty in the first game. Bet on Young to be the top batter for New Zealand at 11/4 (3.75).

Our Prediction: Tamim Iqbal to be Bangladesh’s top run-scorer at 13/5 (3.60).

Top wicket-taker

Trent Boult has been in outstanding form, recently picking eight wickets in two games versus England. You can bet on him to be New Zealand’s top bowler at 2/1 (3.00). Nasum Ahmed was exceptional in the first game with 2 for 21. Back him to be Bangladesh’s best bowler at 15/4 (4.75).

Our Prediction: Trent Boult to be New Zealand’s top wicket-taker at 2/1 (3.00).

Man of the Match

The Black Caps batters found it hard to deal with the left arm spinner Nasum Ahmed in the first game. He bowled three maidens in eight overs and picked 2 for 21. Take a punt on Nasum to be the player of the match at 18/1 (19.00).

Our Prediction: Nasum Ahmed to be the Man of the Match at 18/1 (19.00) odds.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand preview

New Zealand looked in trouble before rain saved them. They’d be hoping for a better outing when they take on the hosts in the second ODI on Saturday.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh had the visitors reduced to 136/5 in 33.4 overs. Mustafizur Rahman bagged 3 for 27 while Nasum Ahmed picked 2 for 21 before rain denied any further play.

The hosts fielded a bowling attack of Mustafizur,  Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan. They trusted Mahmudullah and Soumya Sarkar for the fifth bowling quota.

Squad: Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das (c), Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman

New Zealand

Will Young scored a fighting fifty in the opening game while Henry Nicholls made 44. They had a 97-run stand for the third wicket but then lost three quick wickets.

The Black Caps went with our predicted line-up in the first ODI. Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Lockie Ferguson formed the pace unit while they also had three spin options.

Squad: Finn Allen, Will Young, Chad Bowes, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell (wk), Rachin Ravindra, Cole McConchie, Kyle Jamieson, Lockie Ferguson (c), Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi
