New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has transfer targets in mind to boost his squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season. The striker position is certainly in need of improvement and it looks like he is one step closer to adding his number one transfer target to add to his offensive options.
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has indicated that discussions between Chelsea and Juventus over a deal that would see Serbian international Dušan Vlahović move to Stamford Bridge has edged closer. It would take a fee in the region of £68million to make the transfer happen.

The fact that Juventus would entertain selling the player means making this transfer happen may not be as complicated as it could be. With talks set to commence in the coming days, there is every hope that this one can get over the line in good time before the new season begins.
Interestingly, Vlahović has pulled out of the Serbia squad for their upcoming European Championship Qualification fixtures, owing to injury. Therefore, he won’t have any distractions in the coming days and few weeks as the parties involved look to strike a deal to bring the 23-year-old to Chelsea.
This is understood to be a evolving situation, meaning the goalposts of the deal could indeed change at any moment. The player himself make look to force a move, and surely he would entertain the chance to play in the Premier League. His time at Juventus perhaps has not gone as well an intended, although injuries has played a part in this.
It was during his time at Fiorentina which alerted many of the major clubs across the European game as to his talents. He really kicked on a gear in the 2021-21 and 2021-22 campaigns; netting a total of 38 Serie A goals during that period. At his age, it could be argued the best is yet to come, but overcoming his injury issues will be important to that.
Why do Chelsea want to sign Vlahović?
Chelsea need a new striker, maybe even one or two more as well. This simply has to be a position that Pochettino looks to add more depth to. This was one of many issues Chelsea suffered from last season. Having to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in from the cold last season was a desperate move that never looked like working.
Kai Havertz has struggled to mould into the main striker position since coming to the club and it would appear that he is one of many that could leave Chelsea this summer. The one position in the case of Vlahović is that he is an out-and-out centre forward. He is a goalscorer and is domain is the penalty area. Give him the service and he’ll deliver.
In addition to this, he is capable of holding the ball up and bringing others into play. There is a lot to like about him and the fact he is only 23 proves why many clubs have been linked with him. In addition to Chelsea, Bayern Munich have been tipped with his signature according to Corriere dello Sport.
