Six days of the 2023 World Athletics Championships have now come and gone. We’ve nearly witnessed a full week of top-tier athletics action from the Hungarian capital of Budapest, but we’re not done yet. Thankfully, there are still three days left. It’s time now to look ahead to Friday, which will be the seventh day of the competition.
Day six lived up to the incredibly high standards that had been set over the first five days, that’s for sure. Matthew Hudson-Smith so nearly gave Great Britain & Northern Ireland another gold medal in the men’s 400 metres final. The man from Wolverhampton hit the front and looked to kick clear inside the final 100 metres, but as the line drew closer he couldn’t quite see off the challenge of Jamaica’s Antonio Watson, who took gold late on, leaving Hudson-Smith to finish in a very valiant second place.
Femke Bol dazzled the crowd with a breathtaking performance to take gold in the women’s 400 metres hurdles, while Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou once again proved to be too strong for the field in the men’s long jump.
After another great day, what does day seven have to offer us? Well, among other things, there’s the not-so-small matter of the women’s triple jump final, plus the women’s javelin throw.
