Scotland and Italy get the final round of 2023 Six Nations fixtures underway at Murrayfield at 12:30 GMT on Saturday. The host’s campaign has fallen away after defeats to the top two sides, Ireland and France, over the last two rounds, whereas Italy have lost all four matches in spite of some very encouraging performances.
A win for Scotland will see them finish the tournament on either 14 or 15 points and could see them finish as high as second place. For Italy, they must win this game or else they will finish bottom of the table for the eighth successive Six Nations campaign.
Scotland vs Italy Preview
This will be the 35th contest between Scotland and Italy with Scotland leading the head to head 26-8 with no games ending a draw. Against the other opponents in the Six Nations, Italy have their best overall record against Scotland but have been beaten in each of the last 11 matches against them.
With two wins from their four matches so far in the campaign, Scotland have announced four changes from their last fixture. Finn Russell, Stuart Hogg and Richie Gray are all out injured with Scott Cummings also dropping to the bench. The loss of Russell and Hogg will be a big test for the hosts.
Needing to win to give themselves a chance of avoiding the Wooden Spoon, Italy have also made four changes from the team who lost 29-17 to Wales last weekend. Simone Gesi, Alessandro Fusco, Marco Riccioni and Edoardo Iachizzi all come into the side.
