Italy vs Uruguay prediction and odds: Rugby World Cup 2023

The two teams in Pool A who have played only one match each so far in the 2023 Rugby World Cup go head to head at the Allianz Riviera, Nice in the first Wednesday fixture of this year’s tournament! Italy demolished Namibia 52-8 in their opening fixture with Uruguay putting in a credible performance as they went down 27-12 against the hosts France.

Italy vs Uruguay match predictions

Getting out of a group which includes France and New Zealand is near on impossible for Italy and Uruguay but a win in this match will give them both half a chance.

Italy to win with a -22 point handicap @ 10/11 (1.90)

Playing an attacking and free-flowing brand of rugby, Italy have won many admirers across recent years, even if they haven’t won all that many matches against the top tier sides. However, as seen against Namibia, when they are up against weaker opposition they can really rack up the points. Uruguay will be no pushovers in Nice, but it will be a tough ask for them to replicate their spirited performance against France from last weekend.

Italy are ranked in 12th with Uruguay five places further down and we expect the Italians to run out as comfortable winners in this match.

Ange Capuozzo to be first try scorer @ 6/1 (7.00)

Italy crossed the line seven times in their win over Namibia with each try coming from a different individual. It was no surprise to see Ange Capuozzo score a try last Saturday and he has now racked up three international tries since the middle of last month. He will return to his preferred position of full-back in this match and we are backing him to get the first try of the game.

Will Italy swagger to another entertaining victory?

Uruguay lost by only a 15 point margin to a much-changed France side last Thursday but a full-strength and high on confidence Italy could well be an even tougher proposition in Nice.

Italy

Kieran Crowley’s team wasted no time in getting into their stride in the 2023 Rugby World Cup as they ran in seven tries and picked up a bonus point in the process in their victory over Namibia on the first weekend of the tournament. Another bonus point victory for Italy will allow them to dream of finishing in the top two of this pool and we expect them to win by a large margin.

Italy last five:

Italy 52-8 Namibia

Italy 42-21 Japan

Italy 57-7 Romania

Ireland 33-17 Italy

Scotland 25-13 Italy

Uruguay

After back to back wins over Chile and Namibia in the run-up to the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Uruguay couldn’t quite make it three in a row but still performed with spirit against France last Thursday. If the South Americans can pull off a shock result in this match it will put them in confident mood ahead of their clash with Namibia on the 27th.

Uruguay last five:

France 27-12 Uruguay

Uruguay 26-18 Namibia

Uruguay 26-25 Chile

Tonga 43-19 Uruguay

Romania 16-21 Uruguay
