France vs Uruguay prediction and odds: Rugby World Cup 2023

After having to sit back and watch the action on the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup, Uruguay get the chance to open their account as they go head to head with hosts France on Thursday evening in Lille.

For the South Americans, this is their third successive Rugby World Cup and their fifth in total but they have never won more than one pool match and have never progressed to the knockout stage. They couldn’t really ask for a tougher opening fixture!

France got the tournament and their campaign up and running with a famous 27-13 win over the All Blacks on Friday evening in Paris. And with tougher assignments expected further along this Rugby World Cup, have rung the changes for this game.

Prediction: France to win with a 53 point handicap @ 1/1

This match sees the number three ranked team in the world take on Uruguay who are down in seventeenth place. But not only is there a huge disparity in the rankings, France are also playing some brilliant rugby and have destroyed much better sides along the way! They have lost only one of their last eight matches and you have to be a very good team to beat the All Blacks by a comfortable 12-point margin. Uruguay narrowly beat Chile and Namibia in their final two Rugby World Cup warm up games but this match will see them against a team with far more quality in every position than their previous two opponents.

Prediction: Louis Bielle-Biarrey to be first tryscorer @ 5/1

The 20-year old Bordeaux winger comes in as one of twelve changes for France ahead of this match and becomes his country’s youngest ever player in a Rugby World Cup match. With the hosts choosing to rest their first choice wingers, this will be a great opportunity for Bielle-Biarrey to mark his first appearance in the tournament with the first try of the game.

France vs Uruguay head to head

This will be the first time these sides have ever played a competitive international match with none of Uruguay’s previous Rugby World Cup pool appearances seeing them drawn against the French. It will be a new experience for both sets of players and a real privilege for the Uruguayans to face France in front of their home fans.
