Peru or Draw
Although Japan are the favourites to win this match, their recent form doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. Hajime Moriyasu’s men suffered three losses in their last six matches, with two wins and a draw. On the other hand, Peru defeated South Korea a few days ago; they have four wins in their last six matches, losing just once in that stretch. Taking both teams’ recent form into account, we are fairly confident that Peru will not lose this match.
One Team to Blank
It’s worth mentioning that Japan have scored and conceded their fair share of goals in recent weeks. However, scoring against this Peru side is easier said than done. Juan Maximo Reynoso’s lads have been very solid defensively; they kept four clean sheets in their last five matches, allowing just one goal in that five-game stretch. At least one team blanked in all of Peru’s last five matches, 10 of their last 11 games too. On that note, we shouldn’t expect goals at both ends.
Less Than 3 Goals
Our last Japan vs Peru prediction is on the over/under goals market. We’ve already established that Peru did not concede in four of their last five matches; as a result, they’ve been involved in a lot of low-scoring matches recently. It may interest you to know that 12 of Peru’s last 13 matches featured less than three goals, with nine of those games going below the 1.5 goal mark. For this reason we don’t think these teams will score up to three goals between them.
