Gijon vs Malaga – Predictions, Odds & Best Betting Tips

Relegation threatened Malaga travel to Gijon’s Estadio El Molinón on Sunday evening as they search for vital points. Will they get any here? Find out with our Gijon vs Malaga preview here along with the predictions and free tips we mention along the way.

Draw

We asked the question in our opening whether or not Malaga will collect any points from this game and we think they will – but only one. That’s right we’re predicting a draw. Gijon are in a vastly superior position to Malaga in terms of the league standings but one win in their last four games is hardly a glowing run of form. Malaga aren’t in a great run either with two defeats, two draws and a win from their last five games. Throw on top of that a head to head record that shows the last two meetings between these sides have ended level and a draw looks to be a good value bet.

Both teams to score

On the topic of exploiting value in the betting odds, our second tip for this game sees us backing both teams to score. Gijon have a weak record in this regard over recent weeks with just one of their last five games ending with goals at both ends, however, Malaga have seen each of their last four games end with both teams scoring and the head to head record is stacked full of end to end encounters; each of the last three meetings have seen both teams score. With the 6/5 (2.20) price on offer, it’s a good shout.

Under 2.5 goals

We now come to our final prediction for this game and we’re betting on a low scoring outcome as we opt for under 2.5 goals. Gijon have gone south of the 2.5 mark in four of their last five games whilst averaging just 2.4 goals per game across that period. Malaga meanwhile have seen three of their last five games fall short of the all important 2.5 cut off but, notably, their game average is actually softer than Gijon’s at just 2.2 goals per match. Three of the last five head to head games have failed to reach three goals as well.

Gijon vs Malaga: Team News

Gijon

Gijon lined up with a 4-3-3 formation in their recent win over Zaragoza and a similar setup is likely here. They’ll be looking for their attacking talents to prove the difference and that means you should keep your eyes out for the performances of Uros Djurdjevic and winger Juan Otero.

As it stands, they are 13th in the league rankings, nine points adrift of promotion playoffs. They returned to winning ways against Real Zaragoza after a run of three winless fixtures. Young forward Dani Queipo scored for them but continues to struggle in completing 90 minutes on the pitch.

Malaga

Malaga earned a more than solid point-off promotion chasing Burgos last time out and will probably stick with the XI that started that game here. That means you can expect a good old-fashioned 4-4-2 with Alfred N’Diaye and Aleix Febas occupying the key central midfield roles. Ruben Castro is their main goal threat.

They are in the relegation slots, five points adrift of security. They have only registered four wins this season and are three matches away from their last victory. Moreover, they are scoring at less than a goal a game while conceding at 1.25 goals, giving them a net negative inflow that has seen them struggle.
