This was a solid display from Day but once again it was a match against a player currently outside the world’s top 100. However, in round 2 she stunned her fellow American and the world number 20 Keys, beating her 6-4 in the decider.
Day has never before been so deep at a Grand Slam and these are uncharted waters for her. Also, her win vs Keys in the previous round was her first match against a top 100 player since last October as between then and now she’s been playing mainly at Challengers.
