Yulia Putintseva vs Karolina Pliskova Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

This second-round match between Putintseva and Pliskova should be very entertaining. As for my tennis predictions today, check them out for this game right here:

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Putintseva vs Pliskova – Match Predictions

Karolina Pliskova is seeded 30 at the Australian Open, which makes her one of the lower seeds in the draw. She’s currently ranked 30 in the WTA standings, whereas her opponent is ranked 47. So to be honest, there isn’t a huge gap in rankings between these two players. But where there is a huge gap is in their head-to-head record – 5-1 in favor of Karolina Pliskova. This is obviously quite substantial, especially with the experience of Pliskova in general.

As for recent form, Pliskova has enjoyed a better start to 2023 compared to Putintseva. She picked up a couple of good wins in Adelaide before coming to the Australian Open. In contrast, Putintseva took two heavy losses at the United Cup before scoring a couple of wins in Hobart. So, taking these things into account, let me provide some justifications for the predictions given.

Pliskova To Win

I think of all the factors discussed above, it’s the 5-1 head-to-head record that swings it for me. This shows sheer dominance over her opponent, and the only win for Putintseva came in their first meeting back in 2012. Given that this was more than a decade ago, it doesn’t really hold much substance going into this match.

Two Total Sets

The most likely outcome for this match is that Pliskova wins in straight sets. Therefore, since I am predicting Pliskova to win as one of the tips shown here, it makes sense to double down and shoot for another ‘most likely’ market – Pliskova to win 2-0. Note that this market doesn’t actually require Pliskova to win, it just requires the match to finish in two sets.

So if Putintseva did win the first set, the bet could still come through.

Putintseva vs Pliskova Preview

Wondering how these two match up with one another on an individual basis? Let’s preview each player now.

Yulia Putintseva Preview

Putintseva has actually been ranked as high as 27 in the past. She’s very experienced on tour yet her current ranking is down at 47. As for the way she’s played at the Australian Open in the past, her best performance has been the third round.

Karolina Pliskova Preview

Pliskova has been a top-ranked player for a very long time. She has been the world number 1 back in 2017, and she’s made two Grand Slam finals in the past. The most recent final was Wimbledon 2022, and she backed this up by making the quarters at the 2022 US Open. Given that these are the performances at her last two slams, things look good for the Australian Open 2023.

Putintseva vs Pliskova Head to Head

Pliskova boasts a 5-1 head-to-head lead over Putintseva, which is pretty significant. They’ve played twice in Brisbane, Australia, in the past too. On both occasions, Pliskova took the win, and Pliskova destroyed Putintseva in their most recent meeting in 2021.
