On his way to the quarterfinal, Medvedev defeated Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round in straight sets, followed by a come back win over Bernabe Zapata Miralles and finally, a 2-0 win over Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. The Russian already won 4 titles this season. He lifted the trophies in Miami, Dubai, Doha and Rotterdam. Prior to this year, Medvedev has never moved past the second round in Rome.
