Naturally, this is the most significant tournament that’s currently listed in the WTA 2024 schedule for the first part of the year. So fans are understandably getting excited about the event. And now, let me give you the necessary information as far as confirmed entrants go.

WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list – title contenders

Of the many ways I could break down the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list, I wish to start with the one that most will want to know about. As you can see, this relates to the main title contenders who are confirmed entrants for the 2024 Australian Open.

So, without further ado, let me give some insight into the top five entrants in terms of their current WTA ranking ahead of the Australian Open 2024.

Iga Swiatek

Of course, I had to start with the phenomenal Polish player, Iga Swiatek. She finished the 2023 season in style, winning the WTA Finals and snatching the ‘year-end number one’ spot from Aryna Sabalenka. With this said, Swiatek has never won the Aussie Open, which makes her campaign for the title an interesting one for 2024.

Aryna Sabalenka

As the world number two and defending champion, Aryna Sabalenka has a real chance in the 2024 Australian Open. Interestingly, her 2023 title was her first Grand Slam victory, and due to her ranking, she should be the number two seed. She will be hungry to do well, given that she let the ‘year-end number one’ slip through her fingers in November 2023 too.

Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff could have fit into one of several categories for this discussion on the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list. At 19 years of age, she is certainly a dangerous youngster, yet as the world number three and US Open champion, she’s now an obvious contender. Then again, Gauff has yet to make it beyond the 4th round at the Australian Open.

Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina is the current world number 4, and as last year’s runner-up, it’s great to see her included on the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list. I say this because she endured some worrying injury spells in 2023, and she lost some form towards the end of the season. However, if she brings her A-game to Melbourne in January, she will definitely be one to watch.

Jessica Pegula

In 2023, Jessica Pegula was one of my tips for the title. She was in great form, and she’d beaten the world’s best heading into the tournament. However, she went out in the quarter-finals, so I feel confident in stating that this big-hitting American will be hungry to go further in 2024.

Dangerous youngsters – WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list

When discussing the entry list for any Grand Slam event, it’s perfectly normal to talk about the world’s best and top contenders. But given the depth of great players in the WTA rankings, I wanted to give some attention to the rising stars of the women’s game.

After all, there are some seriously good players who are in their early 20s, and some of the most promising youngsters are still in their teens! So on that note, let me give some names from the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list who deserve the label of ‘dangerous youngsters’.

Mirra Andreeva

In my humble opinion, Mirra Andreeva will be a future star of WTA tennis. She has quite an incredible game, and at just 16 years of age, she is already knocking on the door of the WTA’s top 50. And if she is given a good draw, I believe she can go far.

Qinwen Zheng

At 21 years of age, Qinwen Zheng has managed to reach a career-high ranking of 15 in the world. She’s been on a steady climb through the WTA rankings for the last few years. And by winning two titles in 2023, she will have the belief to do well in Australia.

Leylah Fernandez

Most of you will know Leylah Fernandez due to her impressive run to the US Open finals in 2021. However, while some feared this may have been a flash in the pan, she’s stayed up there in the rankings. Furthermore, as a 21-year-old Grand Slam finalist, she’s one of the most exciting youngsters on the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list.

Marta Kostyuk

This 21-year-old from Ukraine is ranked 39 in the world right now. She’s made several appearances in the main draw of the Australian Open too – three, to be exact. So for me, her experience makes her one to watch in terms of the young guns.

Linda Noskova

Wrapping up this rundown of the top five youngsters on the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list, we have another teenager. Linda Noskova is just 19 years of age, yet she is ranked 41 in the world right now. This is clearly high for a teenager, and this will be her very first main-draw appearance in the Australian Open.

WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list – exciting comebacks and wildcards

To finish off this breakdown of the confirmed entry list for the 2024 Australian Open, I’d like to cover some surprise comebacks and wildcards. Below, you will find three names that may cause your eyebrows to raise:

Naomi Osaka

That’s right – the legend, Naomi Osaka, is a confirmed entrant for the 2024 Australian Open. She is a two-time Australian Open champion. And following a break from professional tennis to focus on her mental health, while also becoming a mother, she’s finally coming back.

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu has been plagued by injuries for the last 12-18 months. Yet the previous US Open champion has announced a comeback for the Australian swing in January. This includes a planned appearance for the Australian Open, yet she will be in the qualifying draw due to her ranking.

Caroline Wozniacki

As a previous world number one, and as the 2018 Australian Open champion, this is one of the most exciting names on the WTA Australian Open 2024 entry list. Wozniacki has been given a wildcard for the event in January. Believe it or not, this will be her first Grand Slam main draw appearance since she won the Aussie Open in 2018!
