JJ Wolf Australian Open 2023: Odds, next match and predictions

Run through our Wolf Australian Open 2023 predictions presented right here.

JJ Wolf Australian Open 2023 Odds

JJ Wolf is reaping the rewards for his successful 2022. His run to the final in Florence last year helped him to establish inside the world top 100 and this is why he finally made his Australian Open debut. Making the most of a kind draw Wolf is marching strong and with luck on his side he could continue his journey in Melbourne for some time. Here are the current outright odds:

After his round 3 win Wolf saw his outright odds slashed from 151.00 to 51.00. This mainly due to the fact that the draw seems to be opening kindly for the American to make a run to the quarterfinals. In any case he’s writing personal history with his run in Melbourne and the brave young American has no plans to roll over for anyone. At least not just yet.

Upcoming match vs Shelton – Wolf Australian Open 2023

The world number 67 Wolf can’t believe his luck. After round 3 clash against a fellow American lower ranked than him this repeats against in round 4. Against the world number 89 Shelton Wolf would feel as if he is the favourite. He is older, has more, even if very modest experience on the tour, and also possesses monstrous serve.

The two Americans have never met before, so they don’t know each other that well.

Wolf has spend far less time on the court as he is yet to drop a set, while Shelton needed 5-set drama in round 1 to progress. Shelton also played 4 tiebreaks in his first 3 matches so he has definitely spend much more physical and mental energy to reach this far.

We believe Wolf will win again, but he can’t underestimate his younger countryman or things could got messy. Still Wolf should have an edge even if the match goes the distance.

Wolf 2023 Australian Open Results

  • Wolf vs Thompson – Won – 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 (2023 Australia Open 1st Round)
  • Wolf vs Schwartzman – Won – 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 (2023 Australian Open 2nd Round)
  • Wolf vs Mmoh – Won – 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 (2023 Australian Open 3rd Round)

Wolf was the favourite in round 1 against Australian Thompson and he showed that by winning 3:1. The game was tight and naturally Wolf showed some nerves in what was his first ever Australian Open main draw match. Still he did what was required.

Then in round 2 Wolf simply blew off the court the number 23 seed Schwartzman. The American stormed to a great start and never looked back winning the match 3:0. We must stress he faced a veteran that was short on practice after injury, but still nothing should be taken from Wolf’s excellent overall display.

Lucky results in his part of the draw meant that Wolf cruised past round 3 too against the lucky loser Mmoh. Once again Wolf’s aggressive shot selection against a player outside the world top 100 helped him to dominate and apart from a close match early on it was pretty much all one-way traffic from set 2 onward.

Wolf hit 10 aces in this last match. He ended up winning 36 of the 48 points on his own serve and yet again was very efficient. This excellent service efficiency explains why Wolf is yet to drop a set in Australia, or even be pushed to a tiebreak.

Wolf Injury update: Looking perfectly fit

Wolf looks in top shape. He moves very well on the court and right now the American gives the appearance to be one of the fittest players left in the tournament. This should give Wolf the confidence that even if a match goes to fifth set he should be able to outlast his rival.

Wolf Past Australian Open Results

This is Wolf’s debut in the main draw of the Australian Open. Both in 2020 and 2022 he failed to make it via the qualifying tournament.

Wolf Australian Open 2023 Prediction – 4th Round or quarterfinal

We believe Wolf hasa a unique chance to reach the last 8 of a Grand Slam. The way the draw shaped in round 4 Wolf is the favourite against fellow American Shelton. If all goes according to the expectations we could actually see Wolf even make the quarterfinals.

This is where his journey will most probably stop though as at that stage a top seeded player, most likely the red-hot title favourite Djokovic, will be waiting. Unfortunately even for a brave Wolf this is too bigger a fish to fry.
