The moment we’ve all been waiting for has officially arrived. The Wimbledon draw for the men has officially been done, and it’s looking as tasty as we’d all hoped for. Of course, we all knew who was seeded before the draw was announced. But now it’s getting real, and I for one cannot wait for the tournament to begin.
As a friendly reminder, the Wimbledon 2022 Championships will begin on Monday, June 27th. So make sure you clear your schedule if you want to tune in for the games! Both the men’s and women’s events are starting on Monday, and as it happens, both draws have been done together. However, I shall be focusing on the men here.
So let me jump straight into it to show you some of the most exciting prospects and key talking points.
A Breakdown of the Wimbledon 2022 Draw
Contents
The draw for the men’s event was quite literally completed within the last hour, at the time of writing. And already the fans are going wild for some matches that are scheduled. For that reason, I’ve broken down the key talking points and what you should be looking out for right here:
Tasty First Round Matches
There are some truly epic first-round games on the cards this year. After looking at the draw, there are many that rank as my top picks to tune in for. These games include Sinner vs Wawrinka, Bublik vs Fucsovics, Coric vs Schwartzman, Musetti vs Fritz, as well as Nadal vs Cerundolo. For me, these have the potential to get very exciting very quickly. And just to clarify, these are all being played on either Monday or Tuesday for this coming week.
In my opinion, we could see some four or five-setters for these matches.
Potential Clashes for the Major Players
Whenever a draw is published for a Grand Slam, many people start to look at the possible matches as we get deeper into the event. I am including myself in this description! And for this reason, we can already forecast some fantastic clashes by the time we reach the second week. Looking ahead to the quarter-finals, are you ready? We could witness Djokovic vs Alcaraz, Auger-Aliassime vs Nadal, as well as Berrettini vs Tsitsipas.
Of course, these games will only materialize if the mentioned players do make it through to this stage. However, we can always dream of such fantastic matches already! And in all honesty, there is a realistic chance that these clashes will take place.
British Interests
I couldn’t give a breakdown of the Wimbledon 2022 draw without mentioning the home interests! Andy Murray has drawn Duckworth in the first round, which is winnable. Cam Norrie has drawn Pablo Andujar, which he should win, especially on grass. And Dan Evans has been drawn against Jason Kubler – an Aussie qualifier. So these guys should all be making it through to the second round, at least.
And of course, we’ve got other guys like Jack Draper, Liam Broady, and several others also in the mix.
