Wimbledon 2022 schedule: Day 7 key matches and order of play

Sunday, July 3rd, marks the midpoint of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Historically, play didn’t always occur on the middle Sunday. But this has all changed, which is great for spectators and fans alike. Of course, this means that there are many games due to take place according to the Wimbledon 2022 schedule. The action is still getting underway at 11 am on many of the outdoor courts.

Wimbledon 2022 schedule day 7

But with a reduced number of games at this point, some courts won’t be starting until a little later. Regardless, there are still plenty of key games on the Wimbledon schedule for today. And I have picked three of the very best that you should pay attention to below.

Top Games for Day Seven at Wimbledon

With the schedule officially published for today at Wimbledon, I can give you an accurate breakdown of the top games and when they will be played. So without further ado, let me jump right in with my first pick:

Sinner vs Alcaraz

This fourth-round clash is scheduled as the 2nd game on Centre Court today. It’s a battle of the talented young guns, which Alcaraz is probably expected to win. Then again, Sinner is an enormous hitter of the ball. He can smoke his forehand and backhand, and this could push Alcaraz all the way out there. But whatever the result turns out to be, I expect that this match will have some brilliant shotmaking. And at the end of the day, that’s what we want when searching for the best games!

Bear in mind that the winner of this match will likely go on to face Novak Djokovic in the quarters. So there is plenty on the line.

Goffin vs Tiafoe

I must confess, I didn’t expect to see these guys’ names in the 4th round at Wimbledon. Sure, I knew there was a chance that they could make it. But the fact that they have both reached the last 16 is already impressive. Tiafoe has had some big wins in the tournament so far, and Goffin has remained solid throughout. And these guys are scheduled to play the 2nd match on Court Two. Interestingly, Goffin holds a 4-1 head-to-head record over Tiafoe, with the last result coming at the 2022 French Open.

Then again, Tiafoe is probably a better grass-court player than Goffin at the moment, although it’s very close.

Mertens vs Jabeur

With Swiatek and Kontaveit losing, Jabeur is now the highest seed left in the women’s draw. So really, she should be licking her lips at her chances of winning the tournament for the very first time. However, she has a tough match today against Mertens, who actually beat Jabeur at the US Open last year. With that said, Jabeur has improved immensely since then. And she has yet to drop a set at the Championships so far.

Mertens is a great shotmaker, however, and she did have a big win against Kerber in the previous round. So I expect this to be a great game to watch.
