At the time of writing, the End of Year Masters in Turin is just weeks away. The event will be held in Turin, Italy, from November 13th until November 20th. As a reminder, this is the event where the top 8 guys in the ‘Race to Turin’ get to compete in an end-of-season playoff tournament. The winner is crowned as the ATP King for 2022. So despite what some fans think, it is still a serious event that all of the top guys want to win.
With this said, only 5 of the 8 possible competitors have qualified so far. The most recent of these was Novak Djokovic, which he achieved by winning the ATP 500 event in Astana. During that tournament, he sealed some big wins against guys like Medvedev, Tsitsipas, and many others. But besides this news, rumours have started circulating as to whether Rafael Nadal will actually compete in Turin next month.
This discussion has come to light since Nadal hasn’t competed in anything since his defeat in the 2022 US Open to Frances Tiafoe. Well, he did play in a doubles event with Roger Federer for the Laver Cup. But really, this was done in order to honour Federer’s career – it wasn’t a confirmation that he is 100% fit or ready to compete.
So this presents an obvious question. Will he indeed play in Turin or not? My answer is given below.
Yes – Nadal Will Compete in Turin ATP Masters 2022

In my personal opinion, I believe that yes, Nadal will be there to challenge once again for an End of Year Masters title. Of course, people have doubts due to his injury problems and personal situation, but I think he will be there. Here’s why:
He Has Still Never Won the End of Year Crown
Rafael Nadal is obviously one of the most decorated players on the ATP Tour. He’s won practically everything there is to win, except the End of Year Masters. Amazingly, this major trophy is missing from his cabinet, so he will no doubt be hungry to go out there and try to win it. I say this despite the fact that he is now 36 years of age.
His Baby Has Now Been Born
When I mentioned his ‘personal situation’ previously, I was referencing the challenges that his wife was facing with her pregnancy. This has been kept somewhat under wraps by Nadal and his family, but the media still covered it enough for the world to know that some potential problems were going on. However, according to reports, the baby was born without any troubles, and would you know it – the baby’s name is Rafael!
He May Not Get Many More Chances
At 36 years old, the curtain is no doubt closing on Nadal’s career. He may only have another season or two at best, especially given his injuries and the fact that he now has a family. And since he hasn’t won the trophy before, I’m sure he knows that he might not get many more chances to capture it.
