Find out who will be awarded US Open wildcards this year. There will be eight players invited to the main event in each of the two categories, WTA and ATP.

US Open ATP wildcards

Alex Michelsen (OUT)

The 19-year-old has never made it past the first round of a Grand Slam tournament. He has two Challenger tournament wins and an overall record of 45 wins and 18 defeats.

The American tennis player won a crucial first-round match against the Spanish Ramos Vinolas. The most impressive aspect was that he completed it in straight sets, converting a total of six breakpoints.

Only by some small details, the American tennis player could not repeat his previous performance. Michelsen won the second set and disputed a tiebreak in the fourth but could not prevent Nicolas Jarry from winning in 4 sets.

1st round: Michelsen beat Albert Ramos Vinolas

2nd round: Alex Michelsen was defeated by Nicolas Jarry

Michael Mmoh (OUT)

The American tennis player will compete in the main draw of the US Open once more. He had just over 18 wins in 32 matches this season for each participation. He was just knocked out in the third round of the Winston-Salem boxing tournament.

The amiable American has faced formidable opponents since the first round, but he has remained focused on his aim. He defeated Khachanov in straight sets in the first round. Following that, he made an important comeback, dropping the first set to Isner and then winning three in a row.

Michael was the one who I guess got the most out of the wildcard he received. Sadly, he lost to British tennis player Jack Draper after 5 intense sets.

1st round: Mmoh beat Karen Khachanov

2nd round: Mmoh beat Jhon Isner

3rd round: Mmoh was defeated by Jack Draper.

John Isner (OUT)

Despite not being at his best right now, he has twice reached the US Open quarterfinals and was ranked in the top ten in the world in 2018. This season, he won only 8 of 21 matches.

In the opening round, the 38-year-old easily defeated a 22-year-old opponent in straight sets. He appeared to have everything under control in the second round after winning the first two sets, but he underestimated the reaction of his compatriot Mmoh, who won three straight sets.

1st round: Isner beat Facundo Diaz Acosta

2nd round: Isner was defeated by Michael Mmoh

Rinky Hijikata (OUT)

The Australian has had a highly erratic season, winning 29 and losing 26 matches. He won 29 and lost 26 matches. He was eliminated in the first round of the US Open the previous two years.

In this edition of the US Open 2023, the Australian player has been one of his country’s greatest. Jijikata defeated Paul Kotov and Marton Fucsovics in six of the seven matches he played.

1st round: Hijikata beat Paul Kotov

2nd round: Hijikata beat Marton Fucsovic

3rd round: Hijikata beat Zizheng Zhang

4th round: Hijikata was defeated by Frances Tiafoe

Leasnern Tien (OUT)

The American tennis player, who is only 17 years old, will have a chance to join the main draw after getting a US Open ATP wildcard for the second year in a row. He previously failed to qualify at Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

The 17-year-old was unable to compete with world number ten Frances Tiafoe. This was yet another fantastic experience for Learner Tien; let’s hope to see more significant events in the future.

1st round: Leasnern Tien was defeated by Frances Tiafoe

Benjamin Bonzi (OUT)

Despite a record of 14 wins and 17 defeats, the French player reached two finals but did not win either. In the previous edition, he received a wildcard to the US Open and advanced to the second round before falling to Nick Kyrgios.

The current world number 100 aims to keep or even enhance his standing, and he has done so by knocking out two opponents. Bonzi’s sloidez outclassed both Quemtin Halulys and Christopher Eubanks.

1st round: Bonzi beat Quentin Halys

2nd round: Bonzi beat Christopher Eubanks

Next Challenge: Dominik Stricker vs Benjamin Bonzi

Steve Johnson (OUT)

Defeated two opponents in Bloomfield Hills and Lexington. The rest of his fights were abysmal, as he was usually knocked out in the first round. In 2012, he advanced to the third round of the North American Grand Slam.

In the first round, the 36-year-old minister had the misfortune of facing the finest American player at the time. Taylor Fritz got rid of Johnson in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

1st: Steve Johnson was defeated by Taylor Fritz

Ethan Quinn (OUT)

This year, the 19-year-old player only appeared in 17 games. Still, it was enough to capture a championship in Wichita. He attempted to reach the main draw of the 2023 US Open from the qualifying round last year but did not advance past Q2.

After falling in the first round, the 19-year-old golfer had a brief appearance in the 2023 US Open. The American tennis player faced the Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles, who won in straight sets after dominating from start to finish.

1st: Ethan Quinn defeated by Bernabe Zapata Miralles

Clervie Ngounoue (OUT)

She was only 15 years old when she entered the qualifying round, which she did not pass. She received her first US Open WTA wildcard at the age of 17. She has competed in a few professional events in recent years, and this year she has 11 wins and 6 defeats.

A poor showing for the 17-year-old, who only won two of her four serves. Daria Seville won in straight sets in 1 hour and 13 minutes after converting five breakpoints.

1st round: Clervie Ngounoue was defeated by Daria Seville

Caroline Wozniacki (OUT)

Caroline Wozniacki’s US Open WTA victory is one of the most intriguing. The Danish tennis player reached the finals in 2009 and 2014, however, she did not win either time. She only competed in two events this year, with one win and two losses.

The former world number one had been gone from tennis for some time, but she demonstrated in the previous two rounds that she still understands how to play. Although her first opponent, Prozorova, appeared to be an easy win, the true test came against Kvitova. Both were defeated in straight sets by Wozniacki.

In the fourth round we saw a generational battle, as the veteran Wozniacki met the young Coco Gauff. The duel was even at one set, but in the last set, the 19 year old took the victory.

1st round: Wozniacki beat Tatiana Prozorova

2nd round: Wozniacki beat Petra Kvitova

3rd round: Wozniacki beat Jennifer Brady

4th round: Wozniacki was defeated by Coco Gauff

Kayla Day (OUT)

Winner of the Granby and Bonita Springs Challengers. She has 32 victories and 18 defeats this season. At the US Open, her greatest performance was reaching the second round.

Day had an opportunity to advance her career with a win in this Grand Slam, but she couldn’t keep up with Romanian Sorana Cirstea.

1st round: Kayla Day was defeated by Sorana Cirstea

Fiona Ferro (OUT)

The French tennis player spent most of her season competing at Challenger events, where she won two titles. At the 2019 US Open, she advanced to the third round. Ferro has 42 victories and 15 defeats.

Despite converting a few break points, Ferro’s defense was extremely poor, as she dropped up to seven serves. Fiona never stopped Azarenka from managing the match.

1st round: Fiona Ferro was defeated by Victoria Azarenka

Storm Hunter (OUT)

The Australian tennis player has competed in all three previous Grand Slams. Individually, she was out of the main draw two seasons ago, although she was a semi-finalist in the doubles the year before.

Karolina Muchova, world number ten, dashed Hunter’s chances of adding a few more victories. Once she went down, the 29-year-old did little to even the score.

1st round: Storm Hunter was defeated by Karolina Muchova

Ashlyn Krueger (OUT)

The 19-year-old has already competed in the previous two US Opens. She was knocked out in the first round on both occasions. She only advanced past the first round of one of the 11 major tournaments she competed in this season.

For the third year in a row, an American player exited the US Open in the first round. Marie Bouzkova eliminated Krueger from the tournament this time.

1st round: Krueger was defeated by Marie Bouzkova

Robin Montgomery (OUT)

Robin played in the first round of the US Open when he was only 15 years old, but he did not advance. The next year, he attempted to qualify for the main draw again but was unsuccessful. He returned a few years later to complete his maiden Grand Slam.

Montgomery’s defeat in the first round was rather disheartening because she faced an opponent on her level. This leads us to believe that losing against a top opponent would have been much more embarrassing.

1st round: Montgomery was defeated by Eva Lys

Venus Williams (OUT)

The two-time US Open champion accepted the organization’s request to put on a good display. This will be her ninth competition of the year, in which she has won three and lost seven matches. We don’t give Venus’s level, but her physical condition has worked against her this season.

Williams’ performance at the US Open 2023 was disappointing, as it has been in recent years. It was expected that she would advance a few rounds and lose to at least one strong player.

1st round: Williams was defeated by Greetje Minnen
