US Open 2023 qualifying schedule and order of play

Hoping to stay on top of the US Open qualifying schedule for 2023? I’ve got you covered right here. It’s hard to believe that the 2023 US Open is almost upon us, isn’t it? In fact, the ATP and WTA seasons seem to have gone by in a flash. Then again, this must mean that we have enjoyed the season. And on that note, while the main draw of the US Open is right around the corner, the US Open qualifying schedule is already here.

US Open qualifying 2023

Right now, the US Open qualifying draw is taking place in New York. Covering a spell of Tuesday, August 22nd, through to Friday, August 25th, we will get to track and watch some top players attempt to make the main draw. And I for one am extremely excited about what the US Open qualifying schedule will bring over the coming days.

Assuming you are too, you will no doubt be pretty eager to learn a little bit more about this pre-tournament event. So without further ado, let’s get right in and cover some specifics.

2023 US Open qualifying schedule – Friday, August 25th

Due to delays that occurred in relation to the US Open qualifying schedule yesterday, today promises to be loaded with great matches. In case you didn’t tune in yesterday, many second-round qualifying matches were suspended mid-way through due to adverse weather. As a result, these matches are now part of the US Open qualifying order of play today. As you will see when running through the order of play for each court, there are many with a side note of ‘to finish’. This indicates that the match was suspended yesterday, and these matches must finish today. Not only that, but the winners of these delayed matches will likely need to play twice, as today is the final day of qualifying.

However, this has not yet been confirmed by the tournament organizers, nor are the subsequent third-round matches already listed on the schedule for today. Yet unless there are any further delays today, it’s essentially a guarantee that those players who must finish their R2 qualifying games today will need to compete again later in the afternoon/evening. I say this because Saturday, August 26th, is not an official day of play – even for the qualifiers. So based on that alone, I expect that the US Open qualifying schedule will reveal an added match on many of the courts once we know who is playing who.

Of course, assuming the schedule stays on track, once the matches have all been completed today, we will know who has earned a place in the US Open 2023 draw – the main draw! This shows that there is plenty at stake, and it should be a great day of tennis all round. So with that in mind, let me run through the full schedule for today.

US Open qualifying order of play – Thursday, August 24th

There are just two days left on the US Open qualifying schedule, which means that the main event is now right on our doorstep. And following the first couple of days of the US Open qualifiers, we’ve gone from 128 players in each draw down to 64. Or in other words – the draw has now halved with the completion of all round one qualifying matches. This is exciting, and with each progressive round, the anticipation of a main draw appearance must grow exponentially for the players left in the draw. Yet as you’ll know, no matter where a player is put in the US Open qualifying schedule, they’ve still got to win three matches to make it.

On that note, the US Open qualifying order of play today shows at least 4x matches for each court. These are all round two matches, and the sole thing on the minds of the players involved will be to win and advance to the final round of qualifying. Needless to say, that’s easier said than done, especially with players who are ranked just outside the top 100 on the other side of the net. However, somebody has to qualify. In fact, 16 players from each draw must qualify, so there is a realistic shot of making the main draw for all involved today.

Anyway, for my penultimate update to the US Open qualifying schedule, I’ve revealed the full lineup for today in the following sections. And to clarify, the action will start at 10 AM in New York today, which is 15:00 UK time.

US Open qualifying order of play – Tuesday, August 22nd

Today marks the beginning of the US Open qualifying event. And with 128 players involved in each of the qualifying draws, there are a ton of matches on the US Open qualifying schedule for both today and tomorrow. This is reflected in the fact that there are 10+ courts in use today, and each court has an absolute minimum of four matches on the schedule. Of course, it will be a similar story tomorrow as there are just too many first-round games to be played and completed in one day. Therefore, this stage of the US Open qualifying draw is definitely the best in terms of volume and diversity of matches.

Yet with each progressive round that is played, the draw will inevitably become smaller, and exactly half of the players will be left from one round to the next. This is set to continue until we reach the final round of qualifying. And ultimately, the winners of the final round, which is set to be held on Friday, August 25th, will then earn themselves a spot in the US Open main draw. This is significant for all players involved in the qualifying, and it means that the matches involved in the US Open qualifying schedule should be full of excitement and drama – something we all love to see as tennis fans!

Anyway, the action is set to begin at 11 AM in New York, which is 16:00 UK time. And there are a lot of matches for you to check out. So without further delay, let me reveal the full US Open order of play for the opening day of the event.

US Open qualifying schedule – tournament overview

As the name of this event indicates, the US Open qualifiers are home to a bunch of players that are aiming to make the main draw of the tournament. Typically, the players involved don’t have high enough rankings to warrant a direct acceptance into the US Open main draw. That’s just the way of the world in professional tennis. However, simply being ranked high enough to even be involved in the US Open qualifying draw is still quite an achievement.

As for the finer details of the US Open qualifiers, there are men’s and women’s matches that will be played over a period of four days. More specifically, the first round of the US Open qualifiers will be played on Tuesday, August 22nd. These qualifiers will then continue until we reach the final round on Friday, August 25th. Once all of these qualifying matches have been played, we will know exactly who has made the main draw for 2023.

Speaking of which, there will be 16 qualifiers from the men’s singles draw and 16 qualifiers from the women’s singles draw. And as this draw gradually unfolds, you may wish to observe some of our US Open 2023 qualifying predictions as we go!

2023 US Open qualifying order of play – day-by-day breakdown

Now that you are armed with a complete overview of the US Open qualifying schedule, let’s now zone in a little further. By this, I mean let’s cover a day-by-day breakdown so that you have an idea of what’s coming up on each of the four days. Oh, and before I forget, if you are interested in US Open 2023 tickets – they are totally free for the qualifiers!

Monday, August 21st

To avoid all confusion, Monday, August 21st, is not an official day of play. However, I did want to put this day out there because this is the day when the actual qualifying draw is made. This is expected to be done later this evening, and once complete, we will know how the various sections are shaping up – very important for all involved.

Tuesday, August 22nd

This is the very first day of the US Open qualifying schedule in terms of actual matches being played. If everything goes to plan, matches should begin at 16:00 UK time on this day, and all days, as it happens. And with all matches being first rounds here, there will be plenty to watch.

Wednesday, August 23rd

Moving to Wednesday, August 23rd, this day should also consist purely of first-round matches. That’s because, due to the sheer volume of players involved, it’s impossible to complete all first-round matches on Tuesday, August 22nd.

Thursday, August 24th

As we get into Thursday, August 24th, we should now get to witness the second rounds of the US Open qualifying draws. At this point, the players left in the qualifiers are just two match wins away from a spot in the US Open 2023 draw – the main one that is.

Friday, August 25th

The final day of US Open qualifiers is set for Friday, August 25th. This is the final hurdle for players to reach the main draw. And of course, I will be providing an update on the US Open qualifying order of play for Friday as soon as it is available.

On that note, be sure to stay tuned for such updates over the coming days!
