US Open 2022 Previews Top Male Players

At the time of writing, we are just two days away from the start of the 2022 US Open. I am super excited for this event to begin, as I am sure tennis fans all around the world are too. And before the action begins, I’d like to provide some previews for the top contenders in the men’s event. For that reason, you’ll see discussions right here on some likely winners from all angles. Some guys are highly seeded, and some guys listed here will simply be great fun to watch.

Mens Preview 2022 US Open

As a reminder, the draw has been done for the men’s 2022 US Open. And that means that you can already look at the potential runs that the players mentioned here will have. Anyway, there is quite a bit to get through here and several top players to preview. So for that reason, let me get started right away.

Previews for Exciting Players to Watch at the 2022 US Open

Within the mix of players discussed below, you’ll see top tournament contenders from several nations. I’ve also given previews of players that should be watched for other reasons too. However, they all at least have some kind of chance of bringing home the title, even if the odds aren’t exactly in their favour. On that note, I’ve provided the most recent outright odds for each of the player previews for the US Open 2022. And with that out of the way, let me get the ball rolling with a veteran of the game:

Andy Murray – 151.00 odds

Andy Murray is still attempting to get back to the top of the ATP Tour. He is still plugging away in his mid-30s, despite having a metal hip. Despite that, I had to include Murray in my previews as he is a great player to watch. He is one of the most intelligent guys out there, and he has the heart of a lion, even when his back is against the wall. Of course, Murray is also a previous winner at the US Open, which many people forget about. Believe it or not, that was 10 years ago!

Taylor Fritz – 21.00 odds

Fritz is the top-ranked American at the moment, with good reason. He is ranked just outside the top 10, although he has been inside the top 10 earlier this year. Fritz has been enjoying the season of his life too. He won the Indian Wells Masters event by beating Nadal in the final. And he made the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, before losing to Nadal. With his huge serve and forehand, Fritz is a threat to anyone in the draw, in my opinion.

Nick Kyrgios – 9.00 odds

With odds of 9.00 to win the entire event, Nick Kyrgios is actually the 4th favourite according to the bookies. Then again, Kyrgios has had an amazing season, which seems to be continuing in recent weeks. Of course, the most notable achievement this season was making the final of Wimbledon, which was fantastic for Kyrgios. He then backed this up by winning the event in DC – an ATP 500 title. And in my opinion, Kyrgios is one of the most talented guys on tour.

Cameron Norrie – 34.00 odds

Norrie is an absolute workhorse out there on the court, and his commitment to the game really is incredible. He might not be viewed as the smoothest or most talented guy, but he has plenty in the locker. Norrie is a top 10 player heading into the US Open 2022, and for that reason, he is seeded 7th. He is the type of guy that always performs on the big stage too, as he confirmed by reaching the semis at Wimbledon in July.

Rafael Nadal – 4.50 odds

Rafael Nadal is the 2nd favourite to win the US Open 2022. The only guy above him is Daniil Medvedev, who is seeded 1. However, there are a few question marks surrounding the physical status of the Spaniard at the moment. These question marks have hovered around Nadal pretty much since Indian Wells, where he picked up a stress fracture in his ribs. Of course, this was followed by the tear in his abs at Wimbledon. But at the end of the day, this is still Nadal we are talking about – the man with the most Grand Slam titles of all time.

Carlos Alcaraz – 6.50 odds

The man that everyone believes will be the next big thing is Carlos Alcaraz. And it was the US Open tournament last year where he showed the world what he is capable of. Alcaraz made the quarters in 2021, before retiring from the tournament during his quarters. Alcaraz’s talent speaks for itself, however, and he is seeded 3rd at the 2022 US Open. He has won two Masters events this year as well, with one of them on hard court. So to say he is one of the favourites is certainly deserved.

Daniil Medvedev – 3.20 odds

Medvedev is the world’s number one at the moment. This puts him as the favourite to win the 2022 US Open, especially since he won the tournament last year. If you can recall, he beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final in what was a spectacular performance. However, Medvedev hasn’t had an amazing hard court swing by his standards. He lost to Kyrgios in Montreal and he lost to Tsitsipas in the semis of Cincinnati. Then again, his game is enough to make him a true threat for this year’s tournament.

Frances Tiafoe – 251.00 odds

The last guy on my list has been included due to talent and entertainment value. Tiafoe is one of the most exciting guys to watch, in my opinion. He has a great game, with a huge forehand and a big serve. And he is also very ‘flashy’, which means that you are always going to get some wonder shots from him. Tiafoe is actually seeded 22 at the US Open too, and he has a pretty decent draw to make it through to the 3rd or 4th round. So make sure you keep an eye on this guy.
