US Open 2022 Preview – Top Female Players

The 2022 draw for the US Open has officially been announced. And going into the event, there is huge hype surrounding certain players. My goal here is to showcase these players, and make you aware of who to keep an eye on throughout the 2022 US Open. Of course, with it being the final slam of the year, the participants are no doubt desperate to take home the title. However, not everyone has a realistic shot at the glory in New York.

2022 US Open Women's Preview

For me, there are a handful of players who we should all be watching at Flushing Meadows. Some you may have already thought of, and others might be someone new to add to your radar. But either way, I hope that you find the information I am about to share insightful, useful, and interesting going into the US Open. So without further ado, let me reveal my US Open 2022 previews for the top female players.

2022 US Open Player Previews – Women’s Event

The draw and subsequent seedings have been revealed for the women’s US Open. And many of the top seeds are covered in these previews below. However, I’ve also tweaked things to include details on certain players that aren’t necessarily favoured to win. These are the players where you can unearth some fantastic outright odds on them to win the tournament. And as detailed above, there are a handful of key players that I’d like to draw your attention to.

Emma Raducanu – 21.00 odds

I have to kick things off by talking about the 2021 US Open champion – Emma Raducanu. Her fairytale victory in New York last year rocked the tennis world. Magnificently, she came through qualifying and won the entire event without dropping a set. In fact, I would be amazed if we saw something like this again in the next few decades. Raducanu was fearless during that title run last year, and she is now returning to where it all started for her. But is she ready for a successful title defence? I’m not overly sure.

She has the ability to beat the world’s best and perform on the big stage. There is no question about that. However, her form since winning the 2021 US Open has certainly been a little questionable. Raducanu has struggled to string together big wins on a back-to-back basis. Then again, she did destroy both Serena Williams and Azarenka in Cincinnati. So I am excited to see what she delivers for the 2022 US Open.

Serena Williams – 34.00 odds

The US Open 2022 is going to be the final tournament of Serena Williams’ career. For those who don’t know, this legend is going to call it a day once she plays her final point at Flushing Meadows. Of course, her form and performances have declined in recent times, but people forget that Williams is now in her 40s. And as sad as it always is for legends of the game, they cannot be at the top forever. I just hope that Williams brings her A-game to show the world why she is regarded as one of the greatest there has ever been.

Serena has a decent opening round against Kovinic. But should she win, she will face Kontaveit – the number 2 seed. This may seem bleak, but Serena is a true champion of the game. So I am sure she will believe that she could beat her.

Madison Keys – 29.00 odds

I am including Madison Keys in this list for two main reasons. Firstly, Keys is a previous finalist at the US Open. She made the finals back in 2017, and this was when the world first started to consider Keys as a true Grand Slam champion. Of course, to even do this you have to be a fantastic hard-court player, which she is. And in Cincinnati last week, Keys showed us all once more what she is capable of. She beat Swiatek, the world’s number one. She also beat Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion.

So clearly, Keys is finding the kind of form that took her to the finals back in 2017. For me, she is definitely one to watch this year.

Iga Swiatek – 5.00 odds

Swiatek is the current favourite to win the 2022 US Open. And really, who would bet against her? Her win streak earlier this season was just phenomenal, and it turned her into a bit of a superstar on the WTA Tour. In case you needed a reminder, Swiatek won 37 matches in a row before losing at Wimbledon. This kind of thing is incredibly rare, and it tells you how great she is on a tennis court.

Since this loss, sure, she hasn’t had quite the same dominance. But Swiatek is still the best on tour when she hits top form, in my opinion. However, she hasn’t gone beyond the 4th round at the US Open before. So she will need to be locked in for a deep draw run at the 2022 US Open, which she is more than capable of.

Caroline Garcia – 17.00 odds

Last but by no means least, I had to include Garcia in this preview of the US Open. I have chosen to do this because Garcia took home the title in Cincinnati last week. Of course, winning a Masters title directly before the US Open is something that cannot be ignored. And this win has catapulted Garcia into the top 20 rankings, making her seeded at the 2022 US Open too. As a reminder, during her title run in Cincinnati, she beat Pegula, Sabalenka, and then Kvitova in the final.

This takes quite some doing, and it shows that Garcia is in red hot form for this Grand Slam event. In terms of the draw that she has at the 2022 US Open, her first few rounds look promising. She is playing a qualifier in her opening round. And this will be followed by a match against either Kalinskaya or Peterson. Beyond that, she will naturally face tougher opposition. However, following her win in Cincinnati, I am sure that she feels she is capable of beating anyone in the draw.
