US Open 2022 Predictions – Possible Men’s Winners

The favourite players to win the US Open trophy have already seen action in the first few days. As expected, most of them advanced to the next round without much trouble. Although they will now be paired with slightly tougher opponents, none of our teams should have any trouble winning again.

US Open 2022 Predictions

Rinky Hijikata had the honour of facing the great Rafael Nal for the first time but was unlucky to lose in the first round. The Aussie surprised everyone by winning the first set, but the Spaniard brought out his experience and managed to turn the match around by winning the next three sets. The match ended after 3 hours and 9 minutes, a little longer than many expected.

The defending US Open champion won his first-round match against the American Stefan Kozlov, whom he defeated in three sets. His next opponent will be the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, who reached this stage after defeating his compatriot Quentin Halys. Daniil will likely win again in three sets as the most difficult opponents would be crossed when reaching the round of 16.

Of course, I have my own US Open 2022 predictions much like other people will too. But due to a whole range of reasons which are detailed below, I think that several guys have a much better chance than all others. So let me get into it right now.

Men’s Winner Predictions for the 2022 US Open

Most of the top bookmakers in the UK have published outright odds for the winner of the US Open. I have included the odds in the predictions below, however, these will shift once the draw gets released. Anyway, you are no doubt eager to see these predictions for the US Open, so let me reveal them right now:

Daniil Medvedev – 9/4 (3.25) odds

Of course, I had to include the previous winner as my number one prediction. Medvedev was sensational at the 2021 US Open. And as you may recall, his victory in the final prevented Djokovic from completing the Calendar Slam. With that said, Medvedev hasn’t exactly had the greatest warm-up to the tournament. He failed to win either Montreal or Cincinnati, but he did take a win in Los Cabos. And his losses in the Masters events came against Kyrgios and Tsitsipas – two guys in great form.

Carlos Alcaraz – 9/2 (4.50) odds

I feel that Alcaraz is starting to settle into the hype around him, even if he hasn’t won a huge tournament recently. He is still a sensational player, and I believe that the 2022 US Open could be his breakthrough event. Mind you, I’m saying ‘breakthrough’, but Alcaraz is already a two-time Masters champion. He’s a fantastic hard-court player too, as shown during his run at the 2021 US Open.

Rafael Nadal – 7/2 (3.50) odds

How could I not include the four-time US Open champion? Nadal has had a bit of a turbulent hard-court swing following his injury woes at Wimbledon. However, I don’t think that the great Spaniard can be written off so easily. He will be seeded number two at the US Open based on rankings and thanks to certain withdrawals. And this would mean that theoretically, his opening few rounds should be easier than if he was given a lower seeding.

The draw has not yet been released, at the time of writing, but 5.50 odds on a four-time champion seem pretty fantastic. As we all know, it doesn’t take much for Nadal to find form in these major events either. So should he get hot and pull through some big matches, I could see him securing a mindblowing 23rd Grand Slam title.

Nick Kyrgios – 7/1 (7.00) odds

Now we are getting to the more speculative US Open predictions, but hey, would you bet against Nick Kyrgios at the moment? I certainly wouldn’t, not with the form that he has been producing in the last couple of months. Of course, Kyrgios made the finals of Wimbledon earlier this summer, which was already epic. His game is well suited to grass, but he has since backed this up by playing great in several hard-court tournaments.

Kyrgios won the ATP 500 event in Washington DC, beating many top players in the process. He then made the quarter-finals in Montreal, where fatigue seemed to cost him a win against Hurkacz. But during that same event, he beat Daniil Medvedev, my number one favourite to win the US Open 2022.

Now, I feel that his chances are heavily dependent on the draw that he is given. However, whatever happens, he is certainly in the mix as one of the main contenders for the title.

Jannik Sinner – 14/1 (14.00) odds

I believe that Jannik Sinner is one of the most dangerous players on tour. The firepower that this man has is just scary, and he can beat anyone on his day. With that said, he hasn’t enjoyed an amazing hard-court swing, which is why the odds are down at 15.00 for him. Sinner lost early in Montreal to the eventual winner, Carreno-Busta. Then he made the last 16 in Cincinnati before losing to Auger-Aliassime. So of course, he isn’t one of the ‘in form’ players going into the 2022 US Open.

Then again, I have chosen to list him in my US Open predictions due to his obvious talents and dangerous game. Much like other big hitters in this list, should Sinner find form and get his confidence up, he will be tough to beat. This is especially true on the faster hard courts at Flushing Meadows. And I am eager to see what kind of draw Sinner is given, as he will be a seeded player for the final slam of the year. This will be known in the next few days.
