Holger Rune to Win 3-0

Not only has Rune won both of his matches in Melbourne in straight sets (6-2, 6-3, 6-4 & 7-5, 6-4, 6-4), he is also yet to drop a set in either of his previous games with Humbert. The Dane had an excellent 2022 and is already producing better tennis in 2023. It would be a big surprise if he was to let Humbert have a sniff of a chance, let alone win a set, in this clash.

Although we expect Humbert to be knocked out of the tournament in this game, we do not expect Rune to have it easy in any of the sets, let alone the first. The Frenchman has won the opening set 6-3 and 6-2 in the earlier rounds and will get up to his high level early in this match. We predict that Rune will take the set thanks to one break of serve.

Ugo Humbert

The French 24 year old has reached the third round for the first time at the Australian Open. Previously, he had only got this far at Wimbledon (fourth round 2019 and third round 2022).  The left-hander has won three ATP titles with his most recent success coming on grass at the Halle Open, Germany in June 2021.

Holger Rune

The 19 year old Dane has also won three ATP titles but all three of his victories came last year – Bavarian Championship (April), Stockholm Open (October) and Paris Masters (November). He reached his first Grand Slam quarter final in France last year and is already enjoying his best run in Melbourne.
