Stefanos Tsitsipas Australian Open 2023: Odds, next match and predictions

Run through our Tsitsipas Australian Open 2023 predictions presented right here.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Australian Open 2023 Odds

The 3rd seed Tsitsipas is hungry to finally win his first Grand Slam. He had knocked on the door numerous times in recent years, but is yet to do it. Could this be the tournament? Here are the current outright odds:

These odds make Tsitsipas the second favourite to win the title. After 3 semifinal appearances in just the last 4 Australian Opens Tsitsipas might be finally ready to make it to the last day. Can he beat Djokovic though, that is the big question. It seems unlikely considering how little success in this matchup Tsitsipas has had lately. If Tsitsipas becomes the champion he will also become the new world number 1.

Upcoming match vs Djokovic – Tsitsipas Australian Open 2023

Tsitsipas faces an almost impossible challenge in his first Australian Open final. He has also never in his career won an outdoor hard court ATP event, so the chances the Greek could produce the big surprise look very slim to us.

Tsitsipas played well early in the tournament but in his last 3 matches he wasn’t that convincing and struggled mentally when it mattered most. This in a Grand Slam final, only second ever for Tsitsipas, against the undisputed GOAT as far as Australian Open is concerned will simply be devastating.

Tsitsipas can’t really gain any confidence from his recent matchups against Djokovic. He not only lost all of the 4 meetings between the two in 2022, but he has now lost all of the last 9.

All that said Tsitsipas is the only other play, outside Djokovic, that is yet to suffer a defeat in 2023. This shows that the Greek deservedly made the final and he’s hoping to find a way to at least put up a good fight. Tsitsipas also can benefit from the fact that nobody expects him to win, so he doesn’t have too much pressure on his shoulders.

Tsitsipas 2023 Australian Open Results

  • Tsitsipas vs Halys – Won – 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (6) (2023 Australian Open 1st Round)
  • Tsitsipas vs Hjiikata – Won – 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 (2023 Australian Open 2nd Round)
  • Tsitsipas vs Griekspoor – Won – 6-2, 7-6 (5), 6-3 (2023 Australian Open 3rd Round)
  • Tsitsipas vs Sinner – Won – 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3 (2023 Australian Open 4th Round)
  • Tsitsipas vs Lehecka – Won – 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-4 (2023 Australian Open quarterfinals)
  • Tsitsipas vs Khachanov – Won – 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 (2023 Australian Open semifinals)

In the first 3 rounds Tsitsipas had easy opponents and expectedly he won all of his 3 matches without dropping a set. Solid ground strokes, smart use of the drop shot, solid serve, damaging returns and lots of confidence had all been characteristics of Tsitsipas’ displays up to now.

Things got a bit tricky for the highest ranked player left in the tournament in round 4 against the 16th seed Sinner. All was near-perfect again in the first 2 sets which Tsitsipas won without allowing a break. He lost his focus at that point though and lost the next 2 sets only to win the decider in convincing style 6-3.

Tsitsipas was back to his ruthless best in the quarterfinals where he beat the unseeded Lehecka without dropping a set. The match wasn’t very easy with tiebreak needed in the second set. However, Tsitsipas was never broken despite allowing 8 breakpoints and his experience carried him over some tricky moments.

In his fourth Australian Open semifinal appearance in just the last 5 years Tsitsipas finally broke his duck and was able to record a win. It wasn’t easy against the 18th seed Khachanov with 2 of the 4 sets going to tiebreaks. However, the Greek showed resolve and broke in decisive moments in sets 2 and 4 to wrap up the win. He once again struggled causing too many problems on his own serve. Also Tsitsipas missed countless opportunities to win in straight sets, with his nerves clearly hyped at the end of this match.

All this begs the question how good mentally Tsitsipas will look in what will be his first-ever in Melbourne and only second overall Grand Slam final appearance.

Tsitsipas Past Australian Open Results

Tsitsipas has played in the main draw of all of the last 5 Australian Opens. On his debut in 2018 he lost in the opening round. However, since the Greek has become a solid top player and in 3 of the last 4 years he made it all the way to the semifinals.

In the last 2 years he lost against beaten finalist Medvedev in the last 4, while in 2019 was beaten in straight sets by Nadal. Tsitsipas entered all of these 3 semifinals pretty tired, so he has seems to have learnt his lesson to achieve easy wins in the first week of the tournament.

Tsitsipas Australian Open 2023 Prediction – final

We believe in Tsitsipas and in our opinion the Greek is ready to reach just his second Grand Slam final and first in Melbourne. He is the highest seeded player left in the tournament and will certainly fancy his chances aganist anyone left in his half of the draw.

Tsitsipas won’t potentially meet the big favourite Djokovic until the final so we believe the Greek will make it there. Unfortunately against the Australian Open record-champion Djokovic it would be hard and we foresee another lost final from Tsitsipas.
