Cerundolo is 22nd in the rankings, three spots lower than his career best. The 24-year-old is 32-19 for the season and 7-5 on hard.
In the opening round in Toronto, he defeated Alexis Galarneau 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Last week, he lost in the opening round in Hamburg to Yannick Hanfman.
Cerundolo won one title this year in Eastbourne and lost in the final in Lyon.
