The man of the moment, Jannik Sinner, is starting his Indian Wells campaign today against Thanasi Kokkinakis. Of course, the Italian is the favourite, but how are my tennis predictions today shaping up for this one? Let me take you through my tips now.
Our favourite Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Jannik Sinner predictions
Contents
Sinner was highlighted in my initial Indian Wells 2024 preview for good reason. His form in 2024 has been simply phenomenal, yet he does face a tough opener today with the fiery Aussie on the other side of the net. But he has beaten Kokkinakis in all three previous encounters, which leaves a few key markets worth covering for this match:
Sinner -4.5 games handicap @ 4/6 (1.67)
Since there is no real value in covering Sinner to win the match or to win in straight sets, I feel this is the best play. This market has a solid chance of pulling through, too, since Kokkinakis will struggle to break Sinner, while the Italian will get plenty of chances on the Aussie’s serve.
Under 20.5 games @ 4/5 (1.80)
Based on the way that Jannik Sinner has been playing this season, really, he should dominate a player like Thanasi Kokkinakis. Assuming he does exactly that, there’s a good chance this match will have fewer than 20.5 games. Effectively, anything better than a 6-4 6-4 result would get this one over the line.
Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Jannik Sinner odds
The current odds suggest a 10% probability for Kokkinakis to win while Sinner has an 88.90% chance to win.
Sinner set to continue scintillating form at BNP Paribas Open
Before making your wagers, make sure you have a quick read of the following previews for these two players.
Thanasi Kokkinakis preview
Kokkinakis has earned big wins in recent weeks, as shown by scalps against the likes of Draper, Evans, and, most recently, Marcos Giron in the first round. This will give him confidence, of course, but whether he can trouble Jannik Sinner is a different story entirely. That said, he has some hope since he did grab a set against the Italian in one of their three previous encounters.
Jannik Sinner preview
Due to his 2023 results and his start to the 2024 season, Sinner is now ranked 3 in the world. He is looking like the next big thing in men’s tennis – that’s if he isn’t already. Furthermore, he has 2 titles so far this season, which includes a Grand Slam. So I’m sure he’s confident that he can win Indian Wells, not to mention winning this opening game.
Kokkinakis vs Sinner head to head
These guys have played each other three times, and Sinner has won all three. As for the most recent matches, both of which came in 2023, Sinner beat Kokkinakis in straight sets.
