The French Open is almost upon us and this year both the men’s and women’s sides of the draws look super competitive. With there being live contenders throughout the draw there are many different tennis betting strategies that can be adopted when placing a bet ahead of the tournament.

Is there a better match in all of the tennis than Rafa Nadal and the French Open? Nadal has won an astonishing 13 titles at Roland Garros and it would be a brave call to back against him winning a 14th. Nadal is currently the third favourite for the title and can be backed at 9/4. He arrives at Roland Garros with questions about his fitness. Nadal was in clear discomfort with a foot injury during his defeat to Denis Shapovalov at the Rome Masters and if he isn’t fully fit, winning the 14th title might be a tough ask.
Simona Halep has only won one French Open title, with her victory coming back in 2018. Halep has a great game for clay and her pugnacious counter-attacking style can make her very difficult to beat. Halep has at times struggled against players who can hit a heavy ball, but if her game is on no one will want to face her.
3. Backing the young guns
Another one of the tennis betting strategies that you can employ is betting on the rising stars of tennis. The futures of both the men’s and women’s tours look incredibly bright. On the men’s side, teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz has taken the game by storm. At just 19, Alcaraz has moved into the top ten in the world after winning both the Madrid and Miami Masters. Dubbed the future of the game, Alcaraz certainly has the game to win in Paris but winning a Grand Slam as a teenager isn’t an easy thing to do. Another player on the men’s side of the draw to keep an eye on is Jannik Sinner. The Italian is another who looks set to rise to the very top of the game. His ball-striking and elite mentality belie his years and general lack of experience. Sinner looks like a player who will win multiple slams in his career and it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if he were to go on a deep run here.
Paula Badosa is the world number 2 and one of the heaviest hitters on Tour. Badosa has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the rankings and a tilt at a Grand Slam looks the likely next step. Badosa has struggled a little on the clay in the lead up to the tournament. There is no doubt that she will raise her game for an event of this magnitude and could be a real contender for the title.
4. Backing players who have good French Open form
There is value everywhere you look and there are a few players who are definitely sneaking under the radar this year. Diego Schwartzman has reached the semifinals and quarterfinals in the last two years and is a massive 50/1 to taste success this year.
On the women’s side of the draw, Marketa Vondrousova was a finalist back in 2019. Since then, Vondrousova has struggled to match that run but has all the tools to succeed on the clay. At 35 in the world, Vondrousova can cause some upsets and is a big price that could be appealing to pack. This could be of the safest tennis betting strategies to employ.

A talented player Zverev has all the tools to win a first Grand Slam but questions remain over his mentality and fitness. With new exciting challengers such as Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev will be wanting to win a Grand Slam as quickly as possible. Time could be running out and if Zverev wasn’t to win a slam it would be a huge disappointment.
