This was the first top 10 win of the year for Vondrousova who moved on to the final match to lose from Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 6-4.

Vondrousova was the big story of the 2019 Indian Wells, as she defeated stunned Simona Halep in the previous round. The 19-year-old had a great start against the sixth seed Svitolina winning the opening set and she was so close of winning the match as she had a break in the final set. However. Svitolina turned things around and moved on the semifinal where she lost to Bianca Andreescu.

Svitolina came to Doha after a stunning lose at the Australia Open to Elise Mertens. She had no problem against the then 18-year-old Vondrousova winning in straight sets. In the following round, the Ukrainian lost to Petra Kvitova also in straight sets.
