Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Quentin Halys Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

Third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on world number 64 Quentin Halys in Round One of the Australian Open on Monday. Take a look at our Australian Open predictions:

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Tsitsipas vs Halys – Match Predictions

When the world number four takes on the world number 64, a one-sided match is expected. So it may prove to be, with Tsitsipas reaching the semi-final in three of the last four Australian Opens and Halys not getting past the first round since 2016.

Quentin Halys to Win a Set – No

The 26 year old Frenchman comes into this tournament off the back of reaching the quarter finals of an ATP event for the first time. He did so in Auckland but lost in straight sets to world number 48, American Jenson Brooksby. Tsitsipas will be another level or two up from Brooksby and has a very strong recent record in Melbourne. For this reason, we do not expect Halys to win a set on Monday.

Under 37.5 Games

Although Tsitsipas has the game to blow inferior players away, he is regularly content with one break per set. Halys will certainly push him in some sets and we would not rule out at least one set going to a tie-break. However, Tsitsipas has a 75% win ratio in Melbourne and this is, by some distance, his favourite Grand Slam. We predict that the imposing Greek player will win in under 37.5 games.

Tsitsipas vs Halys Preview

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a household name in tennis nowadays but some fans may be a little less up to speed on Quentin Halys. Let’s take a closer look at both players:

Stefanos Tsitsipas Preview

Since turning pro in 2016, Tsitsipas has gone from strength to strength with his career. At the start of 2023, he had nine career titles to his name and career prize money of $23,655,204. Apart from one French Open semi-final in 2020, he has never got beyond the fourth round of any other Grand Slam than here in Australia, and this is where he is capable of producing his best tennis.

Quentin Halys Preview

Regularly needing to qualify to get into the Grand Slams, Halys has struggled to turn his undoubted potential into getting near the second weeks of the big tournaments. This is his 12th year as a professional tennis player and the right-hander has progressed to the second round of only one Grand Slam, on the Wimbledon grass in 2022, since 2016.

Tsitsipas vs Halys Head to Head

The players have never met on the main ATP Tour but have come up against each other once before, in the Quimper France Challenger event in 2018. On an indoor hard court, Halys won the first set 6-1 before going on to lose the final two 6-4 and 7-6. Very few pundits expect Halys to win this first clash at a Grand Slam.
