Fans in attendance at the US Open on Saturday will be treated to no shortage of top-class action, but one of the most mouthwatering ties must be the match between former US Open winning veteran Stanislas Wawrinka and up-and-comer Jannik Sinner, who appears to be well on his way to reaching the heights of the game. You can find our tennis predictions for this match below.

Our favourite Stan Wawrinka vs Jannik Sinner predictions

Here we have the power of experience versus the exuberance of youth. On the one hand, ‘Stan the Man’ has been there are done it at this tournament, while Jannik Sinner is a hungry young player who is fast proving that he’s ready to compete with the very best. An interesting clash indeed. Below are my ATP US Open 2023 predictions for this match:

Jannik Sinner -6.5 games @ 11/10

Sinner and Wawrinka are no strangers having met three times since 2022. They’ve met twice on a hard court this season and on each occasion Sinner has won in straight sets. In both of those matches, the youngster was just too dynamic for the 38-year-old multiple Grand Slam winner, winning by at least a seven-game margin on both occasions. The Italian also arrives here off the back of a very dominant 3-0 win against Sonego last time out. On that evidence, he’s got enough in the tank to pick up another strong win.

Jannik Sinner to win 3-1 @ 11/5

Sinner can win this done by a decent game margin, but we really ought not to be surprised if the wily Wawrinka grabs a set. The veteran has played very well of late, beating some top players. In a five-set match, he’s very likely to lack the fitness and energy to match Sinner, but at the prices, I fancy the Swiss player to deny the Italian a straight-set victory. After all, when the pair met at Wimbledon last season, Sinner won by three sets to one.

Can Wawrinka’s experience triumph over Sinner’s youthful energy?

We’ve seen our predictions for this match, so now is a good time to check out how these two players have fared this season so far.

Stan Wawrinka preview

The three-time Grand Slam winner really has been enjoying something of an Indian summer. After a few years in the wilderness, the player affectionately referred to as ‘Stan the Man’ by his supporters has been fantastic over the last few months. He competed well at Wimbledon, and has since gone on to reach a tour final in Croatia, before delivering a couple of fine performances on a hard surface, beating the American pair of Nakashima and Tiafoe, who is ranked inside the world’s top ten. His four-set win over Argentina’s Etcheverry last time out was solid and at the very least, he’ll be ready for this test.

Jannik Sinner preview

Sinner is another player who has enjoyed himself this year, that’s for sure. He’s won two tour events, winning on a hard surface in both Canada and France, while he also performed well on grass to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon. His recent form is strong, and it’s fair to say that he made light work of beating both Hanfmann and Sonego to reach this stage of the competition. Everything points towards the Italian having a great chance of bettering his career-best finish of reaching the quarter-finals at this tournament last year.

Wawrinka vs Sinner head to head

Wawrinka and Sinner have met on the court five times before. Of those five matches, Wawrinka has won two, but Sinner has dominated in recent times, winning each of the last three renewals of this fixture.
