Spain vs Serbia Davis Cup Preview and Predictions

The second match from Group B in the Davis Cup is scheduled to be played today. And as you can see, the game involves Serbia and Spain. Of course, these are the two nations where the legends of Djokovic and Nadal come from. But I should point out right off the bat that neither of these guys is competing today. However, the match should still be a truly mouthwatering affair. There are some huge talents on both teams, which I’d like to cover first.

Davis Cup Spain vs Serbia

For Serbia, you’ve got Kecmanovic, Krajinovic, Djere, Lajovic, and Cacic. And several of these guys can play top-level on their day. As for Spain, you’ve got the new world number one, Carlos Alcaraz. He is backed up by Bautista-Agut, Ramos-Vinolas, Martinez, and Granollers. Because of this, I expect to see some great matches in the Spain vs Serbia clash today. The match is expected to begin at 16:00 CET for those who are interested in watching.

But these are just the official lineups. As for the potential singles and doubles matches for this one, that’s another thing entirely. However, I’d like to cover this right now while providing some predictions for the expected games.

Serbia vs Spain Possible Matches With Predictions

As is the case before all Davis Cup 2022 games, the only thing we can be sure of before the coaches announce their lineup is the listed players and their rankings. But because we know this, it’s possible to hazard a good guess as to who will play where. For that reason, let me cover the two singles matches and the potential doubles match right now.

Number One Singles

Based on the rankings and singles capabilities of players from both sides, the number one singles game is perhaps the easiest to predict. Then again, this is only true from the side of Spain. Given how well Carlos Alcaraz is playing at the moment, it’s a pretty safe bet that he will play number one for Spain. As for Serbia, the best player is definitely Kecmanovic, but he might not feature as number one. It’s possible that Serbia might throw in one of the lower guys to focus on number two singles.

But either way, I have to go with Carlos Alcaraz grabbing a win.

Number Two Singles

When it comes to number two singles, the obvious choice for Spain is Bautista-Agut. He is experienced at the Davis Cup event, and he is a very solid number two. However, there is always a chance that Ramos-Vinolas might be selected. As for Serbia, they have a list of three guys who could potentially play three. Kecmanovic might be bumped down, as mentioned above. But below him, we have Djere and Krajinovic who could step in and compete for this immensely important number two rubber.

Doubles Match

For Spain, Granollers will definitely feature, and I feel that his partner will be Martinez or Ramos-Vinolas. And for Serbia, it could well be Cacic and Lajovic. However, since these are not regular pairings on the ATP circuit, it’s tough to say exactly who will pair up. In fact, we will have to wait a few more hours before we know for sure.
