Jannik Sinner Australian Open 2023: Odds, next match and predictions

Run through our Sinner Australian Open 2023 predictions presented right here.

Jannik Sinner Australian Open 2023 Odds

Sinner has reached at least round 4 in all of the last 5 Grand Slams, he made it to the quarterfinals in Melbourne last year. The young Italian is clearly a star on the rise, but it seems his form early in 2023 is still not where it should be. Here are the current outright odds:

These odds put Sinner outside the top 3 favourites to win the title. Hardly surprising considering that on all his consistency the youngster is yet to even reach a Grand Slam semifinal. In our opinion Sinner remains one for the future, but this year he won’t be among the last 4 yet again.

Upcoming match vs Tsitsipas – Sinner Australian Open 2023

Sinner has bad memories vs Tsitsipas as it was exactly the Greek that beat him in straight sets in last year’s Australian Open quarterfinal. Sinner has lost 4 of the 5 previous matches between the two, all 4 defeats in straight sets. This is likely to play in the mind of the Italian as he prepares for the match.

Sinner has to be doing much more with his returns if he is to stand any chance of pulling an upset in this matchup. Unfortunately we don’t see this happening and even if he manages to win a set Sinner is expected to lose the battle.

Sinner 2023 Australian Open Results

  • Sinner vs Edmund – Won – 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 (2023 Australian Open 1st Round)
  • Sinner vs Etcheverry – Won – 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 (2023 Australian Open 2nd Round)
  • Sinner vs Fucsovics – Won – 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 (2023 Australian Open 3rd Round)

Sinner cruised past round 1 against the lacking fitness and match practice Edmund. He also beat Etcheverry in straight sets in the next round, despite the fact that Sinner’s returns were not particularly effective.

The Italian nearly left the competition in round 3 when he had to come from the brink to edge the unseeded Fucsovics 3:2. Sinner lost the first 2 sets, once again his returns were very disappointing in those sets and didn’t cause any damage. He also went a break down early in set 4, but managed to regroup and win.

All these matches were against unseeded players and even in them Sinner looked shaky, so it’s clear he is not in top form right now.

Sinner Injury update: Looking fit, but fatigue a factor

No injury issues reported and no medical treatment needed after, or during, any of the matches so far. Sinner was rubbing his muscles during the breaks of his last match though. Mainly in the fifth set, so clearly he is starting to feel some fatigue. The fact that 2 of his 3 matches were played under scorching sun probably doesn’t help his condition either.

Sinner Past Australian Open Results

This is only the fourth Australian Open for Sinner. For 2 years he had adjustment period to the heat and speed of the courts in Melbourne, but eventually got it right in 2022. On his debut in 2020 he reached only round 2. The following year he exited after only 1 match, but last January went all the way to the quarterfinals.

Sinner is yet to beat a top 10 player in Melbourne though and he still seems to be working his way around the conditions Down Under.

Sinner Australian Open 2023 Prediction – 4th Round

Sinner is undoubtedly a talent that in near future will be challenging for big trophies. However, for now he remains a bit short compared to the best in the business and in Tsitsipas this is who he meets in round 4. With that in mind we think Sinner’s journey in Melbourne will stop here.
