Today is the second day of the men’s quarter-finals at Roland Garros. Of course, we already know who will be playing in the semi-finals from the top half. However, with two quarter-finals left to go in the bottom half, there is still plenty of action to unfold. Most people expected Casper Ruud to make it to this stage. But in the case of Holger Rune, he really is a surprise quarter-finalist. At the end of the day, I really do feel like Casper Ruud will take the win in this particular game. There is no doubt that Holger Rune is a great player and an exciting prospect. But given his lack of experience at the highest level, I don’t think that his fairytale will continue beyond the quarter-final stage. And I’ve given my reasons for this right here:
Ruud’s Clay Court Prowess
One of the major factors in my decision to go for Casper Ruud here is due to his overall clay-court prowess. Most tennis fans are aware that Casper Ruud is one of the top clay-court players in the world at the moment. And this is the case due to how he actually plays the game. He’s able to hit incredibly heavy from both backhand and forehand wings. And he is able to structure points while using every corner of the court to get the job done.
Previous Meetings Between the Two
In order to come up with any reliable predictions for tennis matches, it’s always important to look at the head-to-head records. With these two, Casper Ruud currently has a 3-0 head-to-head lead over Holger Rune. As it happens, all of their previous meetings have been on clay, and Ruud has yet to lose a set against Rune. All of these meetings have occurred within the last 18 months as well, which makes the head-to-head statistics relevant in this case.
As for the most recent match between these guys, Ruud managed to beat him in Monte Carlo by a score of 7-6, 7-5.
