Our favourite Robin Montgomery vs Victoria Azarenka predictions

The former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka is the 10th seed at the WTA Guadalajara. She is a major favourite in the opening round against the American teenager Robin Montgomery.

Victoria Azarenka 2-0 @ 1/2 (1.50)

Azarenka has been on the tour for 20 years, which is more than Mongomery’s age. This is a real chance for the teenager to make a name for herself at the WTA tour, but she does not have the needed quality to stand a chance against a player like Azarenka. The former world No. 1 will know how to handle things against the youngster and will win this match in straight sets.

First set under 9.5 games @ 1/2 (1.50)

Mongomery is still fresh among the tennis professionals and Azarenka is the toughest opponent she has ever faced. Azarenka knows how to be dominant on the court and she will set the tone early one with a quick opening set that will stay under 9.5 games in total.

Can Montgomery make a sensation?

Montgomery is another hope of the US tennis but she has very limited WTA experience. It is always nice to see young players winning on big tournaments but it is very unlikely for her to beat Azarenka.

Robin Montgomery

Montgomery is 144th in the rankings which is one spot lower than her career high. The 19-year-old is 22-19 for the season and 11-10 on hard surface.

She received a wildcard to play at the US Open main draw but won only three games in the opening round against Eva Lys.

Previously, Montgomery reached the second round in Stanford, losing to Kamilla Rakhimova after beating Coco Vandeweghe in the opener.

Montgomery won one ITF title this year, defeating Alice Robbe in the final in Saint Gaudens.

Victoria Azarenka

Azarenka is currently 23rd in the rankings and she has spend a total of 51 weeks on top of the rankings. The 34-year-old is 20-16 for the season and 14-10 on hard.

The two-time Grand Slam champion, is coming off a second round loss at the US Open, 6-3, 6-3 against Lin Zhu. Previously, she defeated Fiona Ferro 6-2, 6-1.

Azarenka’s best result this season was the semifinals at the Australian Open where she lost to Elena Rybakina.  She also made it to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Azarenka has not won a title since 2020 when she lift the trophy in Cincinnati. This is her second appearance in Guadalajara after she lost in the semifinals to Jessica Pegula last year.
