Emma Raducanu Australian Open 2023: Odds, next match and predictions

Check out the key information on Raducanu Australian Open 2023 results, fixtures, and odds right here.

Raducanu Australian Open 2023 Odds

Emma Raducanu is still one of the most exciting prospects in tennis, in my humble opinion. Let’s not forget that she won a Grand Slam on just her second attempt at the 2021 US Open. However, things haven’t been fantastic for Raducanu since that triumphant victory. And ahead of the 2023 Australian Open, she’s not been tearing it up. That’s why she has the following odds to win the event outright:

At 51.00 odds, she is certainly not categorized as one of the favourites to win the tournament. In fact, she is down at 75 in the WTA rankings for the moment. So she will not be seeded at the event, and she has picked up an ankle injury in one of the warm-up tournaments too. Therefore, things are looking unlikely for Raducanu to win the tournament in Melbourne.

Upcoming game vs Korpatsch – Raducanu Australian Open 2023

Emma Raducanu has been placed in the same quarter as Iga Swiatek, which isn’t a great draw, to be honest. Yet before we get to those later rounds, Raducanu has other top players in her way. Specifically for the first round, Raducanu has been drawn against Tamara Korpatsch of Germany. These two are right next to each other in the rankings at the moment, with Raducanu ranked 75 and Korpatsch ranked 74.

And they have played once previously – a game which Raducanu won in three sets.

Emma Raducanu Form Going Into 2023 Australian Open

As mentioned above, things haven’t been going great for Emma Raducanu in recent times. She’s been struggling to find consistent form pretty much since she won the US Open back in 2021. Yet since that’s quite a while ago, we cannot really take that into account regarding the form for the upcoming Grand Slam. Instead, it’s better to focus on the last five matches that she has been involved with, as displayed below:

  • Raducanu vs Kuzmova – retired (lost)
  • Raducanu vs Fruhvirtova – won – 4-6, 6-4, 6-2
  • Raducanu vs Jabeur – lost – 7-5, 3-6, 8-10
  • Raducanu vs Kasatkina – lost – 5-7, 4-6
  • Raducanu vs Ostapenko – retired (lost)

As seen with the last five matches above, Raducanu has retired in two of them through injury. This has become quite a pattern over the last 12 months, which is no doubt concerning for Raducanu and her team. As for the matches she did complete, she managed to win one out of two.

This also involved a close contest against the current world number 2, Ons Jabeur, in an exhibition event. As for the most recent victory against Fruhvirtova, this was at least a confidence builder since that player is ranked 80 in the world. However, it doesn’t exactly look fantastic concerning the last five matches for Raducanu ahead of the opening Grand Slam for the 2023 season.

Raducanu Injury update: Shouldn’t Be A Problem

The big story about Raducanu regarding the upcoming Australian Open is whether she will be fit to play. In case you missed it, during the ASB Classic in New Zealand last week, Raducanu retired injured against Kusmova. While playing, the courts were somewhat slippery, and Raducanu took a tumble during the match, injuring her ankle. Then again, no official reports have been issued to detail the extent of the ankle injury.

So at the moment, we can only base our prediction on her statements in a recent interview she gave to the British press. Raducanu claims that she hopes to be fine by Monday, which is when the Australian Open begins. Therefore, we are inclined to say that the injury shouldn’t cause a huge problem – it certainly shouldn’t cause Raducanu to drop out.

Raducanu Previous Australian Open Performances

Since Emma Raducanu is still so young, she doesn’t have an extensive track record in any Grand Slam. In fact, she has only made one previous appearance at the Australian Open which was last year in 2022. Once again, in this tournament, it seemed that injury problems were impacting her performance. She ultimately lost in the second round, and it was clear that severe blisters on her hands were causing big problems on the court.

This is an interesting one as it happens since the Australian Open is obviously an outdoor hard-court event. And over in New York, Raducanu has been crowned the Queen of Flushing Meadows by winning the tournament – also an outdoor hard-court event. So really, if you put two and two together, this would lead punters to assume that Raducanu favours the quicker hard courts.

That’s definitely what players get when competing in the Australian Open. Both the heat and the humidity make the ball travel quickly through the air. And the general bounce from the ball is very high too, which causes plenty of problems for many. However, Raducanu is a player who likes to strike the ball with plenty of venoms. So with a bit of luck, her heavy hitting will help her to perform well in Melbourne in 2023.

Raducanu Australian Open 2023 Prediction – Early Exit

In our opinion, things won’t result in quite the same fairytale for Raducanu in Melbourne this year as was seen in New York back in 2021. For us, she’s been plagued with far too many injuries to have any form of confidence going into the event. Not only that, but Raducanu just generally hasn’t had enough court time to be in top form for Melbourne. Because of that, we are predicting an early exit for the British number one.

This is even more likely when you look beyond the first round discussed earlier. Should Raducanu win her first match she will play Coco Gauff, the 7th seed. That’s already a very tough match given the injuries and poor form that Raducanu has experienced recently. So for us, she will likely lose in the first few rounds.
