This will be her first match since Wimbledon, where she lost to Ons Jabeur in the round of 16. That was her first loss after eight consecutive wins after she won the title in Berlin the week before Wimbledon. That was her second title of the year, as she also lifted the trophy in Miami in April.
Kvitova won WTA Montreal in 2012 and reached the round of 16 in her last four appearances.
Camila Giorgi
Giorgi is 51st in the rankings, which is way lower than her career-high 26th place. The Italian is 21-14 for the season and 12-5 on hard.
She defeated Elvina Kalieva and Ashlyn Krueger in the qualifiers before beating Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of the main draw.
The 2021 WTA Montreal winner won one title this year in Merida defeating Rebecca Peterson in the finals.

This will be the fifth match between Kvitova and Giorgi, and both players have won two of the previous four. Their last match was in the opening round in Dubai last year, where Kvitova dominated in a 6-2, 6-0 win. Giorgi won in the round of 16 in Montreal in 2021, 6-4, 6-4, and in the same stage in 2018 in Sydney, 7-6, 6-2. Kvitova won the first match at the 2014 Billy Jean King Cup, 6-4, 6-2.
